door handles

Hi all.

I recently bought new gaskets which sit between the door handle and the car door.

Can someone point me in the direction of where I can find instruction on how to remove the door handles on a late 944?

Is this a simple procedure or should I go to a mechanic?

A long time since I had to do this so if memory serves correctly, there is a screw in line with the handle in the rear of the door, if you remove that then slide the handle about 3/8" rearward it should remove remaining connected to the mechanism by the operating rod and knuckle. From there I can't remember if you can disconnect at the top of the rod or at the bottom but if at the top try not to let the rod drop out of sight or it is a case of door card off, not difficult though no airbags as on later cars. If you do have to access from below inside the car the internal mechanism and bracket make access to the rod difficult.

I've got one off so far with some guess work and help b4 reading the guide . I haven't tried it yet on the other handle using clarks instructions but it looks as though it might be a bit tricky trying to push the rod back on again without removing the door card .
 
I've just done mine as was needed for MOT. Bought the plastic bits from Porsche, £2.72! Its a fiddley job and need patience. If you are replacing the gaskets you will need to remove the plastic ball on the lock inside to slide the rear gasket on. You will need to remove the door card and make sure you fit the lock balljoint first and then the central locking plastic small internal rod and the the central locking rod to the solenoid. If you don't put the balljoint on first you won't be able to get enough pressure to pop it on. It took me 2 hours to find this out by trial and error!! Good Luck
 
Hi Guys, I did this and once you remove the door screw and slide the handle back and out, it gives just enough clear air against the door so you can slide the gaskets over the handle without removing the solenoid rod. The gaskets are reasonably pliable. I would also suggest putting tape around the door were you think the handle will bang against as you fiddle around, you don't want any scratches. Ian
 
I've been wondering how they got the handles off given that you need to undo the screw, by now I guess you've fitted replacements did they break the screw lugs?
 
I have the drivers off at the moment as the drop link that operates the lock had snapped, common fault, they are a right fiddle to get the drop link ball joint off the lock mechanism, god knows what the refit will like [:mad:] You can buy lock components from OPC my handles are scripted so luckily i will not have to look for another but repair this one. Masking tape all over my door to protect, do this as you WILL scratch the door. Mark they must have had the door opened to remove the securing screws as there is no way they would budge without these being removed ?
