Don't buy parts from Porsche OPC......

Dissapointingly my new porsche shocks, just over 2 years and 3,000 miles are shot.

Purchased from Porsche Tonbridge and fitted by my indi it appears they must have been 'new old stock' judging by the stickers I am told.

Despite moans to both Porsche Tonbridge and Porsche Cars GB neither are prepared to do anything, seems once they are over 2 year warranty period they don't want to know even though they are clearly older than that and were probably knackered soon after fitting.

Any thoughts/advice from anyone?

Do shocks go off from sitting on a shelf, even for a long time ? If it was me I 'd go back again to the OPC and see what can be done. Two years use is strange.
 
Speak to Trading Standards about this. They will tell you straight away if you have rights.

We think that using a two year warranty argument may not stand up in court, but just check.

 
Andy, have you spoken to Porsche Tonbridge face to face on this? If not, why not come to the Kent region meet tonight at The Kentagon, Brands Hatch - there's always someone from Porsche Tonbridge there, and Pearl and Phil can point you in the right direction. Wife and I will be there about 8.
 
Andy....are these Porsche branded or OEM from another maker. I only ask because I'm up for new rear dampers and standard 944 fitment is Boge. My Indie uses OEM parts on my car, but if that's what the OPC supply then I'll look elsewhere!
 
Talk to them direct and try regional.meeting, if no positive response.

Report them to trading standards and go directly to the small claim courts quoting sale of goods act and not fit for purpose.
 
This is very worrying for me as I was just about to order two pairs of shocks (front and rear) and a full set of bushes for my 1994 Cabrio. I enquired about the availibility of these parts and was told they are all availible, however front coil springs are not!

I've spent an enormous amount of time trying to source these springs (originally supplied to Porsche by by Fichtel Sachs). Used ones are about but defeat the object of rebuilding the suspension. After all, I've got a pair of used ones on my own car ! !

Finally, I found with the help of PCGB friend, a highly reputable company who will make the springs to the original specification. But, guess what, Porsche will not supply me with the spec , because it's their policy not to release this information.

So, not only can I not get new springs but shocks are of a dubious quality too!

Surely a more modern option like KW will be a comparable cost to trying to source original, and better?

Yes, this would be the immediate conclusion but the carbio is not the most torsionally rigid of vehicles. All aftermarket coil overs are lowered and stiffer, so, much of the benefit would be lost as well as creating additional flex in the body. However, in a coupe they would be ideal.

Harsh Big Dave... Although slightly amusing !

Back on subject, it's a sad tale from the OP but I guess many of us also have experienced first class service from your local Porsche parts department.

Thanks for the comments, I missed the meet at Brands but not a bad idea, I haven't spoken to Tonbridge face to face no.

The shocks were fitted by Project Nine Engineering and bought directly from Porsche Tonbridge, they were Porsche shocks, not OEM etc.

I'm told that it's the rubber parts that perish with age rather than purely use.

I've tried Porsche directly as well who first said that 'technical' said rubbish metal doesn't wear in a box, when I pointed out it's the rubber parts they back tracked and now they 'can't date the shocks'.

I'm disgusted to be honest, had they have said, ok, just outside warranty we'll meet you half way or let you have another set cost etc then i'd have been happy with that. Now they'll be getting to hear from me in the small claims court for the full amount, cost of new shocks and a ridiculous cost of fitting .................... as quoted by Porsche!
 
I have reason to believe the a lot of the components now offered by 'Porsche Classic' and marketed as being made to original specification, are in fact nothing more than reproduction parts in Porsche packaging. Yes, Porsche have comissioned companies to resume the manufacture of NLA parts, but often these manufacturers are not the original producers. Tbe result is parts produced 'to spec' but often constructed from inferior materials and suffering from poor quality control - and the customer is none the wiser until the part fails after a short time (usually two years and one day...).

Hence my origial indicator stalk lasting 23 years and 100,000 miles then I had two replacements in the space of three years!

 
See the post in 3.2 section re turbo spoilers. They are coming from POC damaged and they expect us to take them and £547. Simply not good enough.
 
One thing ive learnt over the last few years, is you cant take life too seriously...So I don't ....[:D][:D][:D][:D]
