DME Relay Help !!

Hi All,

Any immediate help would really be much appreciated. My pre mid 1985 lux has been running like a dream since I have had it (a few weeks) but started this morning from cold and fired straight away and then just cut out. It did this yesterday morning but I managed to re-start it and then it drove fine for over 70 miles. It was only when laid up overnight outside that this morning this happened.

So I don't suspect fuel supply the gauge is reading a 1/3 full

Wanted to check the dme relay having read the really helpful clarkes article and so have pulled mine out and first thing is that it is stated as manufacture 1984 so is pretty old

My biggest puzzle is that I do not have a 87b terminal on mine, I attach a pic below

can any one tell me on the basis that I need to connect 87b, 87 and 30 together which ones these are on my relay.I'm assuming 87 and 30 are the same just not sure which is the 87 b.

Want to get car back in the garage tonight so any help gratefully recieved.

My main thinking on it being the dme relay is that having been messing around with the sunroof switches I know that the fuel pump whirs away when iginition is on and now I can't hear it at all when I turn iginition on.

If I am making a rather blind assumption on this then again I would be grateful if you could point me in another possible direction .

Cheers

Well, I think I need to make a confession and say that I've been a right dick head !!

Being new to 944's I just pulled the nearest relay to me which from memory looked like the dme relay. If only I'd checked the manual first !! I took out completely the wrong one !

So having realised that mistake I took out the right one and could not check with the clarkes 3 wire method as I have an after market immobilsor which I think is connected in some way due to if the relay is removed I get nothing not even the starter motor cranking.

Anyway looked inside the relay, could not see any damage so put case back on gave it a flick and re-installed. I then have also taken out the fuel pump fuse made sure ends where OK, no damage and terminals in fuse block were ok and re-installed.

Hey presto - fired up instantly :) so don't know if fuse was dodgy or it is the dme but lesson learnt and new DME is ordered

It is really kind of fun once you have the answer or solved it . A bit like the feeling once you finish at the gym ! Not that fun whilst under duress but a lovely feeling afterwards ;)
