DME ECU repair or replacment advice

Hi,

A few weeks ago i posted about my 944 turbo cutting out. The latest information is that there is no spark when the fault develops. from turning over the engine and having it not spark, it then it sparked and fired up when the DME case was tapped with a screwdriver, instantly. I've had the flywheel sensors changed and DME relays without remedy. So I'm pretty confident there's some thing wrong with the DME ECU.

So, can anyone recommend an ECU reconditioning service in the UK?

Or does anyone have a good 24 pin (ie early) 944 turbo DME for sale? Part number is 951 618 121 02 and 0261 200 075.

Remove the ECU and spay the contacts with contact cleaner and replace.
Wort a try. It worked for me.

With Geoff on this. What happens to a 25+ year old CEU is dry solder joints. Take out the PCB and look at it with a magnifying glass. The main plug to the PCB is also a favourite spot.
It takes a fair bit of patience but if you want to just resolder all the plug to PCB connections. Take a look at the plug itself as it may have a dodgey contact that may have gotton pushed back. Its a real pain to try and get to the bottom of but its worth giving it a go...

If not a second hand ECU can be had for about £100 from fleabay...

Just sorted an SRi Cavalier with a similar issue... Found a dry solder joint in teh ECU... Pure luck TBH

I'm not particularly mechanically minded but this sounds like loose connection... possibly earth.

There seem to have been a spate of sudden non-starters recently. The ignition amplifier and crank case sensors seem to be the main culprits in other cases but your instant cure as described cannot be attributed to this. Oddly whilst everyone now carries a spare DME relay this does not seem to have cured anyones non-starting recently.

Cheers
Mick
