Dash board swap

Hi
Is it possable or has any one tried to swap an early square dash for the later oval type inc console as my square one is knackered and needs a replacement.

Could be a problem with the speedo drive - square dash is cable driven from front wheels, whereas oval dash has (I believe) an electronic sender unit on the transaxle. Not sure if you can retrofit, as I have only ever looked at an '83 !

Cheers had a feeling it would be a no go, might try and take out what ive got a do a revamp cheers for your advise

Not certain, but I think the steering column may be in a different place on the two dashes - certainly there's more room for knees in a oval dash model.

The wiring and fusebox is completely different as is the mounting on the bulkhead.... I'm sure it is possible but I suspect you would need a lot of parts, time, patience & money. It may be possible to relocate your early gauges in a custom pod in the oval dash aperture but that doesn't get the heater working (which is electronic, not cable like yours) plus all the early switches will not fit in the later dash holes. Plus another hundred problems..

It is possible. I have seen a car on which it was done, and it looked as good as factory.

BUT, as has been said, it was (apparently, talking to the owner who did it) a big, big job. And not a cheap one.

Oli.
