Dansk backbox

Are these any good? I have a 944 2.5 8v and the rear box is fairly worn and doesn't look the best.

Whats the sound like? Any advantages in terms of throttle response/power?

Thanks a lot.

I had one fitted to my 2.5 lux. The back box appeared to be straight through and it was a fair bit louder than standard. It made no difference to performance as far as I could tell although it was a bit lighter. I removed it because it was too loud for me. I think there may be different types as I have one in my garage for an S2 that doesn't have a straight through back box.

A de cat is where your see any real power gains. Stainless steal will give u that crisper noise.

I had a longlife custom exhulst made up 4 my 16v 2.5 with a de cat and twin oval tip, which sitted nicely between the rear valance. Most off my panssangers have said my turbo S don't seem as fast as my S due to the exulsht noise. With a stainless u can really hear what ur foot is doing. A quick blip off the throttle gives a quick roar from the exulsht, car was noisier At ideal as well

Iv got the complete system 4 sale from the starter motor back, if anyone is interested.

It wasn't the wasp in a biscuit barrel noise you get with a Janspeed, on the motorway it was a deeper noise but louder than standard. If its a straight through back box it will be noticeably louder.

May be worth the outlay then, if anything just to get a cleaner look and I think my current is on its last legs.

Well I now own a very very clean Dansk rear box. Is it an easy DIY fit? Would like to attempt it myself really and save on the labour costs. It is just a case of unbolt the three existing bolts and just swapping them over. Or am I going to need exhaust paste and a new gasket/new bolts? thanks

It is as simple as that yes (but don't forget the two bolts holding the tailpipe to the rear mount as well). It is always nice to use new bolts for these sort of jobs, especially when your new part is shiny stainless steel but that's up to you.

Edited to add: It was many years ago that I did my S2 Dansk back box and I think I did smear a bit of exhaust paste around the seal just to make sure [:)]

I've just had a backbox fitted last week and I don't think it's overly loud at all. Mind you, I had spent the previous month driving around with the exhaust blowing quite badly. Sounds quite nice now.

I have just picked up a Dansk back box for the 924 turbo. Here's the difference

Here's how it looks offered up

Needs a little tweaking to make it work with the turbo mountings. Hoping the straight through stainless sound is pleasing. The front box was removed a while ago and replaced with a straight through stainless pipe section
