Cup Car "Cup 1s"

My car came out of the factory on body coloured speedlines, I awas hoping to buy a set of mags for completeness but have just checked up the part nos on my spare set of Cup 1s and found that they are actually the wheels that were fitted to the Cup cars (8" fr et52 and 9.5" rear et68 x 17, correct part nos).

My question is this, were these "special" wheels or just regular cups that were used on the Cup cars? Are they relatively heavy/light compared to the Speedlines and Mags? Are they worth holding onto or should I still look for a set of Mags?

Fwiw I quite like them as they are the same rim "J" size as the Speedlines so the car is reasonable consistent on either wheel set.

I've got these on my cup car, and as far as I can tell, they're just normal Cup 1s in these sizes (don't say SM or Magnesium on the rims). Bear in mind that you'll need 15 or 20mm spacers to use the rears because of the 68mm offset. If you do end up selling them, I'd definitely be interested in them (the cup cars have longer rear wheel studs, so have to have spacers and ideally need the 68mm offset rears)

Your wheels are just standard non-mag Cup 1s in the wider sizes, and correspondingly a bit heavier. Cup 1s are fairly light in the overall Porsche wheel world, but as you will see are slightly heavier than Cup 2s. The Cup Car sized wheels are pretty rare, and certainly worth hanging on to. I'd certainly be keen to try and get my hands on a set if I ever managed to find one, though I'm not sure if any of the current crop of track day tyres are available in a size to exploit the extra width.

Thanks for the feedback, I think I will hang on to the wheels. If you were looking out for a set I think the trick is to get hold of the 9.5" first, these are available from Jasmine for around £600/pr fully refurbed, the 8" are plentiful and cheap as they were original fit on some 968s and 928s I think. Total cost for my set was £850 fully refurbed.

I would still like a set of OE Mags, no logical reason, I think I would just like a set for completeness, I could then have Road, Track and Slicks - then I suppose I would need a trailer too!

Last thought, any ideas on cheap but good road tyres, not bothered about wear as mileage will be low but would want good wet grip?

'Even tried writing in French --- but according to Rick the chap is an airline pilot who speaks perfect English.
