Crazy prices? or maybe not

£70k for a cab that (apparently, if 6.8k miles/year) has done 170,000 miles..!! Ad grammar could improve too.. [;)]

All gets frustrating when having to upgrade annually the insured agreed value at an extra premium cost (like I had to last week), if only just to reflect the cost of a replacement in the event of theft/write off.

Cab rebuilt from scratch though - was it one of the anniversary restoration cars the Porsche centres did?

sat around for 12 yrs as well.......not particularly low mileage and no sports seats etc.................i guess being 100% original and unmolested was a big selling pt (not many c2 manual coupes left in that condition)

I've just dropped into AFN Guildford ( to pick up my rear wheel bearings ) and their Rebuilt 964 Targa project is in the showroom today . No price displayed but the parts guy was saying they spent a fortune on its rebuild but it does look good and lots of customer admiring it ;-)

964 Price rising is good if you own one and want to sell , plus Porsche are making more N/A items again as the core car prise rises .
964 Price rise not good if you have want to own one a good one , but 964 have been artificially deflated for a few years so this is perhaps where they should be as a true flattening out cost .

We are just seeing a sharp rise to a levelling out again i'm sure .

I don't know about grammar but 2 spelling mistakes in a short description is not good when we all have spell checkers, even if they are for American English.

Marcus, you must be the only guy I know who's moaning about making money :)

We're going to have to have a serious conversation about values at Le Mans Marcus, will you be there? I am bringing my car this year. I really haven't got a clue what mine is worth, the insurance valuation could be anything from 25% to 50% under what it should be.

I suppose you're right Andrew... apart from those aero mirrors. But there's still so many about. It's not like they're rare or anything.

[:D] You're only making money David I guess when you have something to sell. Really only complaining 'cos I was on the lookout for another 964 and got as far as looking for an RSA, and now they're silly money too. Just seems a bit bizzare at the moment. My brother-in-law in Bahrain has a <15k miles 3.6T (warms it up regularly). There in the '90's, one month he won a Merc 500SL at the airport raffle and then swapped it with a friend who won the following month the 3.6T..! Now he's being offered £200+k. I offered him £30k cash 5 years ago [:(] Can you also believe that Singer's to spec can be north of $500k, and it's just a modern put together of bits you have to provide (more if they provide everything). I'm now starting to look at the cheaper AM V8 Vantages and even Continental GT's (it's just the lack of garage space putting me off at the moment).

I can feel some finger wagging coming my way. Unfortunately Colin I have to sit out LM this year (new job start next week). Going to miss it badly and hope Eurosport HD will fill the void. Was at the Silverstone WEC round in April and man, those 919's this year are mental!
And that's what I mean, almost quarterly it seems you need to revalue the 911 to make sure you're covered sufficiently enough and take the hit on the policy admin charges each time.

My Hyde Park Corner moment over... [;)]

Really struggling with that comment when they have doubled in price in the last two years and a lot have that was down to a shortage of decent cars due to the retro mob using them as donor cars.

We saw the prices of the 73 RS explode some years ago - in the slipstream the 911 S and all pre impact car prices exploded, too.

We saw the 964 RS prices explode recently - the development of the 964 C2 (and C4?) prices is no surprise.

They won´t get cheaper, I think.

that red car had a full repaint etc before sale. It was a very nice car. He sold another 964 for similar money at the same time too .

Having only had a 964 since last Nov, I can now say i think they are worth the money. Took me a while to bond with mine, but having modded the suspension and had some time behind the wheel on my favorite local roads up in the dales, I can say they are cars that get under your skin [:D] Prefer the 964 to my previous 993 & would also choose one over an IB car

Mine is currently on the market at the level valued by the club which was 40k. As ever though, it is only worth what someone will pay and it hasn't sold yet. I'm in no major rush but if it doesn't go in the next couple of weeks, I expect to get it back from the garage advertising it to sell privately. I would never have expected to get the 40k valuation figure for it but you can't blame me for having a go.

if u dont ask you dont get.....and noone would blame you for trying but £40k for a c4 cab is quite frankly a ridiculous price in the current market but it only takes one punter. GLWS

I think what Andrew means is that there can be a difference between a valuation for insurance purposes and what you can get when you put it on the open market. The UK market for 964s is being driven by folk wanting coupes with manual gearboxes. Demand for cabs, targas and tiptronics is much lower.

Saying that, I do know of a tiptronic coupe that was purchased last week for £27K. The buyer was very keen to buy a tip and hence willing to pay the price when they found a very good one.
