I ordered a replacement on the basis of changing it whilst I had the manifold off but what turned up looks a bit different to what came out though.

Have I been sent the wrong part or has some clown used one from another car? im hoping one of you guys who is a fountain of knowledge can tell me.

Excuse the poor picture but the blackberry is crap when it comes to photo's

In a word, yes !

It looks to me as though you've been sent a two connection radiator switch rather than a coolant temperature sender.

Don't forget there are two sender units, one for the DME and one for the temperature gauge.

Chris is right, that is a rad switch for an early car. I know, I fitted one to mine just the other week.

That explains the difference between the two connection (early model) and the three connection (late model) fan switches !

Its the second time I have ordered a sensor for this location and been sent the wrong bloody one.

ive just been sent the wrong temp sensor today also I ordered a dme temp sensor and theyve sent me a 928 coolant temp sensor (brown plug)

Best to download all of the FrontRunner PET parts catalogues in .pdf format so that you can order by part number.
