Club valuation service

A pat on the back for PCGB. Just had my car valued by the club and I'm pretty happy with what they have provided. This service is probably worth a club subscription on its own. Having had to claim for a stolen motorcycle in the past I know what a pain trying to prove how much a lost vehicle is worth can be. Having a club valuation not only helps with insurance agreed valuation policies (they are pretty much obliged to agree) but also can be a bargaining point should you come to sell in the future.

The service is free of charge to members too. Thank you!

Link the club valuation up with an agreed insurance policy valuation and you should be home and dry if the unthinkable happens! [;)]

Keep meaning to get this done, sent photo's to my new insurance company and they valued at £5k which I was pleased with.

There is a form to complete and submit with photos to the club office. I am not at home to link it for you via my laptop but can do later for you.

Martin, You download the valuation form from here, fill it out, send it off with pics, service records, return postage, etc and wait 4-6 weeks to complete.

Mine took about 4 weeks to return.

I agree - was worth its weight in gold many times over when my 2.7 got written off, from incident to the money in my account was under 2 weeks so a jolly good show by RH Insurance too.

When this one gets back from the bodyshop I'll be sending off the form again.

Further to what Edd has already mentioned, there is also the letter of authenticity, or whatever its called now. This too is free to members.

As already posted elsewhere, my only concern with the process was the time taken to complete. First time was around 3 months, 2nd time was 5 months (July to December). I chased the first time on several occasions. TBH didn't have the time or inclination the second time around - just accepted it takes 'ages'.

This forum is great for advice on getting the best out of club membership - many thanks for the valuation form link. I took previous advice and got a smart (and accurate!) Certificate of Authenticity that shows things like the original paint colour and the factory extras. It looks very nice in the front of my PCGB Documents Folder.

The free valuations are a bit of a victim of their own success, and can take some time. I'd imagine that, if the worse happened whilst waiting for the valuation, it wouldn't be an issue. The forms and pictures were all sent in in advance of any accident, so the condition could be valued from them.

This has been discussed numerous times over the years. It would be better if the Register Secretaries could value cars, but as I understand it there is an issue with the insurance industry accepting our positions as "official". At the moment the valuations are done by someone they do accept, so there is no way they would be challenged. I know other organisations ignore this, and get away with it, but it's safer to have it done right IMO. I'll certainly raise it again in April.

It's a very nice thing to have included, as are other benefits like the Certificate. The AA discount I get covers a large chunk of the membership alone, and there are plenty of other deals in Porschefile.
