Clear Indicators on a Red 964

kevin

New member
Thought I' d share some of my pictures of my Red 964 with clear indicators that I completed at the weekend.
I' ve also got some pictures of the 993RS? Steering wheel which replaced the rather bland looking original.
Hope it gives some food for thought.

Thanks Kevin for the super presentation, Certainly makes me want to start saving my pennies for a new steering wheel. I believe Simon is bringing some along to the 964 Titanic Cornish Weekend, so I will see if he can tempt me.

Can we have some pictures on the Forum of your Third Brake Light please.

Best wishes
Ken

Thanks for the pics, Kevin.

I often wonder what it would look like to have clear lenses on my car. I have a Lupo GTi and really like the fact that everything is clear on it but, on balance, I think I prefer my 964 as it is.

Did you think of going for the oval side ' repeaters' ? This is another thing I sometimes consider. They would blend with all the curves but, I just don' t know...

Hi Ken,

Thanks for the positive feedback. I really like the feel of the new steering wheel and can recommend it, and the source.. [;)]

The 3rd brakelight story will unfold very soon, as soon as I can get some time from work and photograph some of the trickier wiring points.

John, I thought about the oval indicators, as they can be sourced really cheaply, but to me they just didn' t seem to flow with the bodywork, they disrupted the fluidity of those fantastic curves, which really was a detraction, so I went with very flat chrome backed ones.

I bought black ovals from a company advertising in 911PW for £13 inc the orange bulbs and i think they look great, i didnt like the standard rectangular orange ones as they " didnt" match the flowing lines

Elliot,

That is one SMART looking car! It' s the kind of picture that convinces me that the 964 is simply the best looking of all 911 variants. Just think - our cars look THAT good AND are absolutely fantastic to drive! Just one or the other would be riches indeed.

There' s something about coming across an individual picture of a car, especially a 964, don' t you think?

Somehow it has more impact that a whole gallery. A bit like club meetings - see a whole battalion of 964s and it can be less absorbing than just one or two examples. The latter somehow encourages you to look so much more closely and appreciate each one more.

Any chance of a closer look at that repeater-indicator? Did the originals leave a mark on the paint?

P.S. What' s your camera?

Kevin,

I think I might be coming around to the clear indicator idea, after all.

Some more pics would be appreciated.

If only I' d spellcheck my posts properly first, I wouldn' t have to keep editing them!

Sorry John I forgot to say that my indicators didnt leave any mark after polishing away the grime, dont know about red though as it bleaches a bit over the years

Elliot,

Please email a selection of pics (good and bad) to me at boggiano@NOSPAMbtopenworld.com - remove the ' nospam' , of course.

I want a new camera and yours looks ideal. Any comments you have about it will be very useful. How well does it handle very ' saturated' colour fields? Mine (only 1 MP Kodak) tends to ' flood' when I photograph my guards red car - the detail of shut lines, etc., tends to get swamped by red.

By the way, I think the friend you mentioned is Brian Thompson, known throughout cyberspace as the Blue Shadow (won' t go into that here!).

Your camera looks like an SLR type, is that the case?

Hi John,
I have the same camera as Elliot, it was on his recommendation that I purchased it. Extremely pleased with the results. [:D] look at pics on my site.

Also we both use Adobe Photoshop 7.[8|]

If you want to mail me Off Forum. Ken@greymist.co.uk

Hi Elliot,

Have to agree about your indicators, they really do suit the car a treat.

When/if I manage to get some more shots of mine John I' ll post them on my site. No timescales as yet though as I need a better camera than present.......

Kevin

Elliot,

Have seen a lot of your pics, now - no need to email.

I' ve seen a very detailed review of your camera which says that it not too good at handling reds. This is a bit of a shame for me...

Anyone know anything about the Canon G3, which I am considering?

Ken,

I' m sorry to be dragging this thread off topic but, on the PCGB boards, there really isn' t anywhere appropriate! Anyway, it' s all to do with photographing my 964!

John,
No need to apologise. The sooner we get more Forums opened the better.
[8|] Why not open a Digital Camera Topic and see where we go from there !
This is the best Porky connection I could manage to find!
