Changing seat backs......

Another job I've been meaning to get round to for......several years, is changing over the driver and front passenger seat backs. There is some slight creasing on the driver's door side of the bolster, but I don't think it has got any worse during my ownership, largely due to the care I've taken getting in and out.

Checked Clark's garage before asking, but can't find any mention. Any tips on the procedure from someone who has done this would be much appreciated. I assume you have to remove both seats from the car?

Yes, I think you'll have to take the seats out (I did - wow in 2003!). Otherwise it's very straightforward. I always slide the seat right back before getting out to avoid wear on the bolster.

Two screws to take off the plastic cover, disconnect the cable (e-clip if memory serves) and undo the bolt, same on each side of each seat.

If your seats have electric reclining then the motor is in the seat back with a wire going from the back underneath the seat. I seem to remember it is extremely difficult to disconnect the wires with the seat in the car - I cut them.

Sounds encouraging Jim, not too tricky a job then. Keith - good point and luckily in this respect, I don't have electric recline.

Oli - have you done yours in situ?

Would seem to be a very worthwhile job - I wonder how many people have actually done it?

Ideally you need a 17mm ratchet ring spanner, but a regular 17mm ratchet spanner would probably work.

Oli.
