Changing discs/pads??

Now I've sorted the exhaust I'm going to move my attention to the brakes before I think about a Promax chip. I had a good look at the brakes this afternoon whilst giving the wheels a good clean inside and out, front pads have all got about 4mm left on them so a little bit of life left in them as they are just about on the wear sensors and I measured the discs best I could with a vernier/caliper that I have, both front discs measure 27mm (ish) in width and have a slight lip on them where they have worn, any idea what the tolerance on these should be, what does a new disc measure?

Thinking I might just change pads this year and do the lot next year but that would probably be a waste of new pads as I would have to change them again with the discs!! I think I might have just answered my own question [&:]

What do you think lads?

can't remember tolerances off hand - but you don't necessarily need new pads when you fit new discs (but the old pads should be nice & flat & not ridges in any way )

I can't lay the Factory manuals to hand just now but Clarks lists a new S2 front as 28mm thick and a minimum thickness allowed of 26.6mm

If you're on a budget, I'd wait until the pads are down to 2mm when the wear indicators illuminate and change everything then. If you want it the best it can be right now I'd change them all straightaway. I agree it's false economy to do just the pads at the moment, as ideally you'd need to do them again when the disks lose another 0.4mm

... although they will work when thinner than that. Right down to about 26.3 ....

(Don't ask me how I know!)
