Change of 964 Register Secretary

As some of you know I have recently purchased another Porsche (which talks better to my track aspirations) and will be selling my cherished 964 C4 (see subsequent message if interested). I had not planned this but recently an opportunity came and I did the deed to buy another Porsche - it sort of happened!

Sadly, as a consequence, it has been decided that I should step-down as Register Secretary effective end September.

It has been fun to have been the 964 Register Assistant Secretary and more recently the 964 Register Secretary.

I am always amazed by the quality of 964's out there and the attention given and the passion shown, to them by their owners.

I would like to thank everyone for their support over the years and I am sure I will keep in loose contact with the Register! I doubt you can get a 964 out of the mind once you have owned one, and I have for over 8 years!

Going forward, I am very pleased that Dave Wilkinson has agreed to be the next 964 Register Secretary, and also that Steve Brookes (based in Cheshire) will be the new Assistant Register Secretary.

I am sure Dave and Steve will expand the Register further and I know that Dave has some exciting ideas for using IT more to help with that.

So for now all the best!

Dave's knowledge of the 964 is fanatastic, so I'm sure he'll do very well in the post.

Congratulations on the new car Alex. It's an itch that I am sure many of us would like to scratch at some point. Hope to see you on track soon and maybe swap passenger seats (how about the club trackday at Oulton in November? [;)]).

I look forward to being Dave's apprentice and to carry on the good work that the 964 register does for us all [:)].

Steve, many thanks.....well I am looking at Oulton so if I get there then for sure you can have a ride - but I will be taking it easy! for a while - pressing on in a gt3 at Oulton in November may just be too much to risk!

Thanks Alexander for your support in the short time (2yrs) that i have been a member of this enthusiastic forum. Congratulations to you both Dave and Steve on your new posts.

May long the passion for 964's continue [;)]

Paul many thanks and I sure the Register will continue to grow. They are special cars for sure! AND SO ARE THE OWNERS!!

Now that the latest Porsche Post has hit the mailboxes I feel that I can "assume the position" as it were - it somehow makes it feel more "official", if you see what I mean.

Along with Steve, we've done a bit of an introduction for the next Porsche Post but, as with any printed medium these days, it always seems old news when it eventually arrives. I'm not in the slightest knocking the magazine - it's a great read - and I know there are rumours that not everyone has Internet access nor uses the forum but, at least, I know if you are reading this I can count on you to NOT be in that catagory!!!

I think it's the right time just to say that I think Alex has done a sterling job for the past couple of years and had the hardest job in taking over from Ken Chambers. I hope I can do even half the job that they have both done before me and one aspect of the Register that I know Steve shares with me to improve is that of sharing and making available information to enhance the 964 owning experience.

It's obviously very early days yet and we need to establish what can (and can't) be done but you will probably have noticed that the 964 forum has grown a couple of new sub-forums in recent days. We now have FAQ and Technical Articles sections which we will build over time to make into a valuable resource for 964 owners (and prospective owners). Maurice Piper has had a similar thing running for some time on the 993 forum and I think it's very useful. Both of these sub-forums are not available for free posting - only Steve and I have permissions to post there - but if there is anything you feel should be there by all means let us know. In the fullness of time I expect that the 964@porscheclubgb.com e-mail address will reach me but, as we speak, it doesn't (Nic - can that be fixed??) so, in the interim at least, I can be contacted on davew@computamedic.co.uk and Steve at boxsey@btinternet.com.

One thing that has been on the sidelines for a little while is the use of the Scantool diagnostic boxes. The Club actually owns two such boxes but it has been difficult to set up any reasonable mechanism whereby they could be lent out and I propose to discuss this with the Club at my first opportunity.

I hope we can help make 964 ownership even more enjoyable and we both look forward to serving the 964 community in the coming years. I look forward to the support of those who know me - and those who will get to know me and I know Steve will agree with me when I say that we both feel privileged to serve the Club and the members in this way.

Best regards

Dave

Rob - many thanks.

As the Mk1 has a 964 crankcase etc it does share a heritage for sure. Driving the GT3 is a little like my 964, just that it is faster all round, and the engine is a peach. The 964 engine is nice, esp with a motec etc, but having that extra hp and higher rev limit reveals a race engine in balance Vs a good engine off the production line. But I will miss the 964 - if the garage was bigger I would keep it - but with bikes, a freezer, assorted junk etc I really can't maintain the shoe-horning of two cars as I have now!

And yes, Dave will be a great RS for the 964's. And I hope he may be able to move the Club's use of IT more - that would be cool.

Cheers Alex

Thanks for all your help and efforts in running the register Alex. Hope you enjoy the new car and don't regret selling the old one [8D]

Dave, good luck with the extra responsibility!!

Regards

Craig

Just sent off my booking for that one. It was quiet with loads of track space last year so let's hope for a crisp dry day to enjoy it. [:)]

Steve.....aghhh bu**er.

I will be in the US that week so won't make it. I was about to sign-up last week and now I don't have the time for it! Enjoy!

There's a big gathering of us at Rockingham on Sunday 19th October (911s, a few gt3s and boxsters) - would be a good place to get to grips with your 3 if you fancy it. Bookatrack are running it. [;)]
