The guy who is selling the car claimed it was standard issue with the 10 speaker optional setup, but after contacting my local OPC they claimed that no car of that era came with a cd player hence the armrest been a tape storage unit.

Thanks in advance [;)]

Mine has the 10 speaker option package and that is certainly not part of it.

Looks very aftermarket to me.

It looks like a Fischer C Box. It certainly wasnt a factory part but they were quite common at the time.

I looked at fitting one to my car in the early-mid nineties. From memory there wasnt enough room in the lower 'DIN' slot, due to the angle. That was an older version though, from when they still made them for cassettes too.

Yes it is a Fischer CD box I have one fitted in my car, not sure if they are made anymore though. I will have a look tonight when I get home from work to see where I got it from.

IIRC looking at manuals and other sources - the 10 speaker stereo came with an equalizer in that spot - only storage was for cassettes in the centre console. At least that is how it looked for North American cars - euro packages may have been different.

Also, IIRC - my 1991 Nissan Maxima came with a Clarion AM/FM/Cassette - no CD - and the Maxima was a top line model with many expensive options such as heads up display of the digital speedo in the windshield, etc. That particular option was actually useful as in full daylight the digital instrument panel was pretty much unreadable. It did however limit you to factory windshields because of the transparent "gold" foil inlay in the glass was required for the head up to work. I was offered one on a dealer clear out for only C$900 rather than full retail of C$1180. Installation extra of course. I traded off the car....[8|]

Might have massive spec. but why no sports seats. Must have listened to the C.Ds rather than go round corners fast. [8|]

That is definitely a fischer cd box , as OE equipment they only had in there a blaupunkt equalizer that came with the optional 10 speaker system. Also the equalizer i think it was specially designed to fit in the 944 center console.
Here is all the info on 944 stereo systems http://reality.sgiweb.org/wws/stereo_faq.html .
If you want to put something nice in there to hold your cd's get yourself a blaupunkt 5 disc cd changer.

I am pretty sure you are going to need that space for a nice after market boost gauge and an afr guage unless you're planning to go all playstation with your extra gauges and their positioning? [;)]
