Cayman S Sport model?

Hi Guys, wonder if you coulkd offer opinion/advice. I have a 57 Cayman S in bright yellow, well specced car, I have the chance to part x with my local dealer for a special edition Sport (series one runout model) This is specced to the hilt, all options as far as i can tell, not just the Sport ones..... Would it me a good move to upgrade to this or spend the extra £10k and go for the latest series 2 with PDK. I did a 48 hour test drive with a poorly specced series 2 with PDK, liked the PDK but didn't like the poor spec.... Will be used as a daily driver , most of the time and track car 6 or 7 times a year...
What do you think???? Sport is in Basalt with full blk leather interior
Thanks in advance... Porsche say they will retail the Sport edition at £45,950 if it hits showroom... seems strong but as I say a fully fully optioned example

Personally I wouldn't think you'd be moving up any, after all it's still the same car, whereas with the G2 you have the DFI engine, PDK, subtle updates, PCM 3.0 (if specced) etc. Can't figure why OPC's are asking similar prices for late G1 and G2's. But as I fancy a G2 myself, I'd - ahem - advise a G1 so there's more out there for me ;)
 
no brainer-take the gen 2 everytime-I'd rather a poverty(!)spec gen 2 pdk than a fully specd gen 1spec edtn superduper......[:D]
 
Thanks for this guys, really helped and I cancelled my visit to the dealership... The sales guy was a little dissapointed and to be fair he had done a good job for me and he pretty much had a sale.... Problem now is Generation 2 or 997 GT3 or GT3RS... Maybe not daily drivers..... but maybe... Anyone else been through this dilema? Again, comments greatly received Cheers Mike
 
I think if you want an everyday car the Gen 2 Cayman is the right choice. The age of a GT3 for the same money, that is around 50k would expose you to expensive running costs in comparison to getting a new or nearly new Gen 2. Why not look round for a 6-12 month old Gen 2, they are about and at least 5k under new?
 
Yep, think you are right; I do often seem attracted to the GT3 but not really a daily driver, not with sensible running costs anyways.... I played with the Porsche configurator last night not 100% seriously and it was very easy to to get a Cayman s with PDK to the other side of £60k..... I remember a few years back when I put a deposit on a new series 1 I hit £56k, (I bottled it in the end and cancelled the order, then a couple of years later bought my current one) is there a thread someone can point me to as to the must haves.... Also what is the latest on paddle shift on Caymans, couldn't find it on configurator..... Cheers guys Mick
 
Must haves are probably a matter of opinion. I went for a manual Cayman S with a few options - some "must have", some "nice to have" - but I doubt if we'd all agree which is which. Regarding the configurator on porsche.com - there seem to be some extra things that the dealer can specify, that you can't on the website. I ordered my Cayman S on the 18th of March and while I didn't choose PDK, the dealer mentioned that if I did, he thought that paddles were specifiable by that point. Might be worth checking this with your local OPC?

Yikes Rich what does that come out at? For me Sport Chrono (you cant really heel & toe without it), Sports seats and PSE are all you need ;) As for park assist if i parked anywhere you were always miles off behind but often you'd be millimeters from the front touching something, so I'd only get it if they had front ones... What colour did you go for?

Not much change from 60k, I'm slightly embarrassed to say. I was a sucker for the options list. Oh well.. Probably didn't need the park assist - I've managed not to bump a car yet in 20 years driving - but I figured I didn't want to start with my Cayman! The car will be white - should be quite nice with the black wheels - although I'll probably be constantly washing it. Lucky me [:D]
 
well done that man!! i can see how it would be easy to spec over 60k because the spec i would choose would be virtually all the ones you did + pdk so probably staring down a £62-3k invoice mmmmm that 997TTseems somewhat a bargain now!![:D] (joking!)

Wow! If I were you I would think twice about some of these options eg PASM (see my post earlier), Sports seats, Coloured belts, Painted dials and Chrono, Leather g/l, Black Wheels addes up to a lot of money, as unless you are going to keep the car for ever you will not get your money back come trade in and it could be worth less. I'm not meaning to be negative but suggest ask your sales guy which options he would chose and which would value it less.

Thanks for your thoughts Chris, but I will respectfully forgo your advice... Although I ashamedly claimed to be a "sucker for the options list" I did actually think twice about all of these options. This is the spec I settled on after weeks of deciding. It may seem a lot, but there are loads more options that I left out. Anyway, I refuse to decide on what car options to have based on a speculative future market value. Who knows - the next owner might actually like my choices. [:)] In any case, I'm buying the car for me - exactly as I want it - and I do plan to keep it for a few years. Cheers, Rich [:)]

Rich, Certainly, I agree with having what you want and not for the benefit of the next owner. I speak from experience of doing just that not with Porsche but with BMW when I spec'd a BMW 5 series sport in white, they look so cool in California. I was told because of the colour dealers didn't want to even bid on it come trade in time. Luckily for me it was a lease car Some of the items you have gone for are v. expensive and I dont believe leaving them out will reduce your enjoyment, eg LSD, PASM, Sports Seats, Coloured bits and SS kick plates. Its hard earned money if you are paying in cash and even harder to pay off if its on finance. Hope you find this useful to think about anyway. Chris
