Still in a state of shock, but just put a deposit on my new car

Signature tells you what I have ordered. Car was in stock, so not my exact dreams

Spent far too many hours deliberating over the decision, especially S vs non S. In the end I have to thank my sales guy for saying "worst case you have something to aspire to"

Went out in their demo 2.9 PDK and it certainly felt fast enough for my limited driving abilities. The S version might be wasted

I am a confirmed caroholic. Last 2 cars have been TTS's, but have also enjoyed RS4, M3, S3, S4, R32, GTI etc and multiple Scoobies. Would be mortgage free if i didnt like cars Tend to change 2-3 time as year, but to get the sums to work on this one I really need to stick with it for 18months.

This is my first ever Porsche, so looking forward to the experience. Certainly the sales experience was 200% better than my latest experiences of Audi and BMW.

Have a very excited 10 year old daughter (becoming a petrol head) and one 14 year old that is more into the pose as she gets dropped off at school. Been promised a drive in a fast 911 tomorrow for my youngest - hope she sleeps tonight.

Not sure if I got a good deal as Ive not spoken to any other buyers of new Porsche's, but did manage a small discount.

Did you drive the S? If not suggest you do so or you may regret checking that out first - a lot more power and torque, plus much better brakes. I did the same thing with the Boxster, got a non-S already spec'd up and built and then swapped to a lowr spec S when the Gen2 came out. You will regret not trying it, at least - will save you money changing again.
 
Don't be put off by the previous post, the 2.9 is a great car and plenty fast enough to attract the men with pointed heads.

I tried both several times before I ordered my 2.9. For sure there is a difference, but it wasn't worth the extra £8k to me.
 
I wasn't wishing to start the S versus the non-S debate again. For sure the non-S is great but I am pleased I got the S especially since the running costs (eg mpg) are the same. In the end I decided that the difference (4k for me) was worth it and pleased I went for it.
 
Yesterday I finally got to do my PDE at Silverstone. I have a 2.7 Cayman so opted for the 2.9 manual. I found it fast enough around the handling circuit whilst trying to concentrate on the the correct line, braking, acceleration etc. Yes, a 3.4 might accelerate faster and have better brakes, but in the real world I am not sure the extra power or brakes are needed, especially for the £8k premium in price. However, I am now thinking of doing the Silverstone Grand prix circuit in a 911. After that I might well change my mind having tasted the extra power. But, as the original poster said it is always nice to have something to aspire to. [:)]
 
I did think long and hard about the S, but finance companies future baloons showed the S losing more money than the 2.9. I'm also not a heavy driver on the brakes. 90% of the time I will probably be under 4000 rpm driving to and from work. The 2.9 has more torque below 4000 than the S, so might suit my driving especially after coming from a TTS with lots of low down grunt. In the end, I dont think I'm a good enough driver to really justify the difference. I will enjoy learning to drive properly a drivers car and then move on. My daughter and myself were taken out in a Carerra S PDK and she wants one, especially after having launch control demonstrated. I might just fancy a Cayman S. Hopefully it will be a fun journey
 
the 2.9pdk feels as fast as my gen 1 "s"so I dont think you'll be disappointed . however the gen 2 "s"is someting else-feels quicker than my 996and the 997 carrera gen 1 but as you say,may be best to leave yourself room to move up the addictive rung[:D]
