Cayman EV will be an Audi?

The 718 E will go ahead, this was confirmed now with the presentation of Audi's Concept C in Milan. The 718E will share the shortened PPE platform with Cayman coupe and 718 E Boxster with soft top.

At 1700 kg, Audi's Concept C is a bit heavier than the planned 718 E with Northvolt battery. Now Northvolt is no longer a viable battery technology, we'll have to live with around 1700 kg for EV Caysters using the same platform. Audi's Döllner has (as has Blume for Porsche) confirmed Audi series production in 2 years. Treading the Macan path of Porscherising Audis.

Concept C looks little better than the dreadful Jaguar rebrand but hopefully Porsche will get their avant-garde designers to reproduce a 911-like shape

It’s a concept, so unlikely to make production in that form. Ugly front treatment, but the rear three quarter view isn’t too bad.

I’ve no idea what’s happening regarding the Northolt battery supply issue for the Porsche cars, but with another year or so to go before a potential release date you’d hope that Porsche have now sorted it out. Maybe an alternative supplier has been identified?🤔

On Northvolt, there are offers for the factory in the USA but not the technology.

As for battery, my understanding they will. use CATL batteries, a little heavier than Northvolt but I am not sure how this will meet the Porsche fast charging with a 800v system objective.
 
Audi's Concept C looks like a very good replica of Gerry McGovern's Jaguars 00 concept. Whilst I thought the Jaguar was extremely ugly when I saw the photographs of the pink car, Jaguar had the same car at the Goodwood FoS in July, now painted blue, and in the flesh I actually thought it looked attractive.
 
Not to detract from Audi's announcement but to follow the Lotus announcement, I think they've had to do something. Emira sales have plummeted with rumours the factory will stop production of the Emira. Reliability and quality issues have plagued the marque along with the lack of comms from the company don't give buyers that warm fuzzy feeling.

Personally I love the looks of the Emira and the sound is amazing. I even considered buying one over my GTS at one point when they were marked at £65k but now a V6 is c.100k which is 911 money so to quote the TV show, I'm out.

I really hope the 718E works for Porsche. They have been properly stung in the bum with the Taycan and failing Macan E sales. Those and the almost biblical rise in the price of the 911 which has even raised an eyebrow with die hard enthusiasts, Porsche need something to bring buyers back into the fold. Welcome new and current owners, make us feel important and that every sale is important to the history of Porsche.

Personally I'll stick with my 718. My wife asked me if I fancied a 911 and I replied with the only one I'd probably get would be a C2 or a T but even then they would need to slash their finance APR and give me a whopping discount. I'm fortunate enough that my 5% APR finance agreement comes to and end in March and I have the funds to pay the ballon, then she's mine. That's not saying I don't look at the Approved website from time to time.:giggle:

Thanks for that Ralph. It seems that CATL supply the batteries for the Macan EV, so that makes sense. Rather odd that the Taycan uses a different supplier though. Apparently the South Korean Cellforce Group supplies the cells to Dräxlmaier for assembly.

We’ll just have to wait and see how this sorry business pans out eventually.

As said, the Toyota V6 Emira has a limited lifespan owing to the fact that the engine won’t be Euro7 compliant Ralph. It’ll be interesting to see how Lotus shoehorn a Mercedes V6 hybrid pack into the transverse engine layout, but having said that I’m not sure if a hybrid I4 would be any easier to package.

Interesting times ATM, and it seems that EV range extenders could be back with this offering from Horse:
