Cayenne Garage door opening device

Has anyone had problems with the "garage door" remote control device fitted to the Cayenne?
I have not been able to programme my remote control handset as specified in the manual. The Porsche agent also cannot help and they confirm that my R/C is of the older type and cannot be programmed?
