Cassette box replacement

I don't know if you have seen the arm rest and cup holders on eBay for £45 in leather, well I bought one a week or so ago, it's arrived I've fitted it, but the fit in my opinion isnt the best.

I've been given a partial refund, but he says I'm the only person that's said it's not a great fit in the last 15 years? There's a pic on kpporsche website that shows the fit being perfectly flush with the ash tray. Here's my pics, what do you think?

James :)

I haven't seen them, but I use mine as arm rest, and can would be in the way off gear changes 4 me.

I put my drinks, 500ml cans or bottles between the seat base and sill just behind the hand brake, fits perfect, never came free, been doing this 4 the last 3 years.

In terms off your fit, have u tryed it without the ashtray? MIT just need 2 move the other surrounds about 2 get it all 2 fit?

I wouldn't be happy with that. The dermal would be coming out.

So with the ash tray out it sits the same? So it's not the length that's keeping it up?

What I would like 2 see with that set up is a hing on the rear, behind the can allowing the arm rest 2 still be used and closed up, I keep changing, sunroof cogs and a toe eye in mine.

Correct.

Spot the diffenrce,

There not the same, yours is one peace. The other looks like the cup holder can be removed.

Yours has 2 cuvers were it meat the cup holder, his is straight

Is it just the leather wrapped part that's high? Looks like it high by simler thickness.

The leather/ top bit isn't there in the other pic.

Plus yours has foam base, where the other had ant slip mat.

Either it has been fitted wrongly, or it doesn't fit? If it's the former, the instructions need to be clearer. If it's the latter then get a refund. [8|]

I replaced my hinged armrest with a new 968 tray. It was about £17 from Porsche if I remember correctly, and fits perfectly fine. The only issue is that the phone does fly out of it on "enthusiastic" cornering.

£17 !
was that all? Just they sell 4 twice/3times that used on eBay, Porsche apart want £70 4 one at the mo

It's a bit more with the non-slip insert (actually they are 944 parts - you can find them on PET)

I think Nottingham PC charged me a bit less than £17

I didn't buy the inset - I'm sure I can find a bit of rubber to stick in there..

Jeez, why do you think we try to point people to the faqs first? [&:]

It's simple; you start with a Porsche Centre, that gives you a price for a brand new part. Then you try alternate suppliers for new parts. Then you try used-parts suppliers in order of their reputation, so people like Elliot or alasdair would be a long way ahead of Douglas Valley or Porsche-Apart (I believe they are pulling out of earlier-model parts, but I'm prepared to be corrected). If all else fails, try e-bay. At leat you know the alternatve prices so you are going in with your eyes open. []

I get very grumpy over this. So many times people contact me to say they've found a cassette hinge for £40 on e-bay, and it's a bargain for a rare Porsche part. I find it very hard to keep my temper when I tell them they are under a tenner new from Porsche. So many parts are the same, but why would Porsche keep parts supplies up, and at low prices, if we choose to pay four times as much for worn-out parts on auction sites?

I've emailed him the pics, £20 refund is ok, but it's still not a god fit, and I'm not happy with it, his attitude was a bit off too, saying he'd sold over a thousand and I'm the only person that's ever complained..

interesting, I was thinking of changing mine for something a little stronger. I like the look of this although granted it must fit
f lushly to look right. Perhaps you can remove some material from the lower front edge where it meets the ashtray? to get it to sit lower, of course I'm saying this without being able to see what's involved. Another option for those craftsman amongst us would be to make a wooden plug to any shape that you desire and get it vac-formed using a suitable textured plastic to match the rest of the trim. This is a lot easier than you might think and wouldn't cost much either.

I thought of dremeling the fixing points at the front and re attaching 3mm higher? To get the desired flush fit.

The finish is spot on, it's real leather and it's clearly hand made, I did ask if he thought it was just mine and would he like to send me a replacement, he said they're all the same so not worth it.

If that's the case James I think I would do as you say, only you can tell if it will look right but looking at the picture if you can lower the front part go for it. One thing to think about while doing this though is to check that the dished insert doesn't foul with the top of the tunnel or you'll be wasting your time.

good luck

Pete
