Hi Guy's has anyone got any experience with carpet dyes, I have a 944 cab in cobalt blue with a blue interior and purple carpets. Does anyone know of a dye kits that actually works and gives a good result/

Many thanks

Gareth

Yes, I had success and posted on here in the last month or two. I have tried searching the thread but according to the flaky search engine on here I have never posted a thing, ever!! If anyone knows a better way to search then try 'black carpet dye' or Autosmart Midnight' which will be in the thread. Found it by back trawling 20 page pages!! http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=587779 Carpets now back in the car with no sign of bleeding of colour, even when wet.

I have had experience of re-dying carpets black, very easy process, not any other colour though, such as purple. Dyed a lot of customers black carpets to restore them, amazing how a 20 or 30 year old carpet, faded to grey or even a nasty brownish greeny grey can come back to black, a real transformation.

Check out this BMW M3 project. http://www.s14.net/forums/showthread.php?t=37916&page=17 I tried to buy this stuff but they were not able to deliver 5L can for me. Some kind of difficulties to send to Finland smaller amounts safely. They offered 200L barrel. Don't need that much [:D] Need is just for one 951's carpets. Hope someone can help me on this.....

Didn't I see Edd China on Wheeler Dealers use matt black car spray quite successfully? Or was that just a 10 minute fix like most other things they do!

I know we can get black dye Steve, do you know what the problem was with sending the dye to you? Was it a customs issue, packaging? We might be able to send you some, even if its decanting it into smaller quantities in sealed containers and heat sealing it into bags as a second precaution. I would avoid using spray paint.. leaves the carpets hard and rough. As for wealer dealers, a couple of years ago we had a 1970's green 911 in for a whole load of repairs by its new owner... Cost of putting the car right was around £4000 and it turned out that the car was the green 911 "Restored" by wheelerdealers a couple of years previously.. I watched the episode on the net and would you believe, every fault we were repairing was items they had "restored"... Quite a mess.. The really dodgy thing, he had bought the car around the time they would have finished filming it, and he was not the guy in the episode seen buying it, and the guy he bought it from was one of the crew in the credits of the show, AND the seller never mentioned his job, that the car was a TV "restoration" or that any of the items on the show had been repaired... looks like one of the wheelerdealers crew is a dodgydealer :)

I am not Steve, but perhaps you meant me. Shipping dye with 5L cans was some kind of issue sending fluids overseas. Most likely they would use plane freight and there are rules what fluids can be sent and how they have to be packed. No customs issue since Finland is also part of EU. We need about 5L to be able dye my son's project 951's burgundy carpet to black. Also dark blue dye will do, since son just got a dark blue 968 interior which is complete, just carpets are missing.

Sorry Olli, my bad, not sure why I wrote "Steve" We should be ok sending 1 litre cans of carpet dye to you, and to be honest 1 to 2 litres should be more than enough. If your interested, just email Lindsay or Declan in our mail order department mailorder@jmgarage.com If anyone is interested, I will put together a carpet dye tutorial and article as a pdf file to download. Its easy and really does spruce up an old carpet. But I should also point out, I am not in the business of supplying carpet dye, it can probably be found cheaper elsewhere on the internet, but if someone is having problems importing something to their country I am always more than happy to help.

I'm Steve!! I used around 4 litres of Autosmart Midnight black carpet dye on my cars carpets. I probably over did it but wanted to make sure it was well done in one hit. I'm really pleased how it came out. Make sure the carpets are out of the car to do it. The spray goes everywhere!! Wear gloves. Will dye your skin as well.

The 944 Register carpet dying team took their work a little too seriously [:D]

Just for anyone who questions the colour fastness of AutoSmart Midnight black carpet dye. My passenger footwell carpet has survived being filled with petrol over the weekend with next to no colour fade. There is a small trace of black in the bucket of carpet cleaner/water used today as I try to clean up the stink within the cabin!!! As for how fuel ended up in the cabin, lets say you should always measure twice, check, check again before drilling through the floor!! Schoolboy error!!

ORIGINAL: markofay Anyone dyed cream carpets? Project car ( which Im yet to put any pics up,) has right old dirty carpets covered by homemade sheepskin mats! hmmmm
No but I have a set im swapping out in the next couple of weeks, im going to see how well I can clean them up with a carpet shampoo system, I will let you know how I get on.

Thats my plan, the blue ones before they go in and the cream ones when they come out so I can sell them on.
