Car on ebay Porsche 924 Turbo

Can anyone assist me? I am interested in a Turbo currently on ebay, under classic Porsche. It is a guards red 1982 turbo, with gold alloys and a gold body stripe. The car looks very good, the owner states that it is 1 of a limited 100 models. I cannot find any details about this model, any help appreciated, he has started bidding at £2500.

If that is a genuine mileage, that is a corker of a turbo. Ask to view it. The red colour can still be seen under the wheel arches, and if it is as good under the lid then the car could be a concours winner. It looks like the stripes are similar to the stripes on the commemorative 924 Le Mans and are most likely genuine. Porsche Cars GB would be able to help if you could get a chassis number. Price? I paid £4100 for my 59,000 mile turbo 5 years ago and I was happy to pay. A 924 turbo hung around on the Auto-graph dealer page for about three years that had 80,000 miles and was reduced from £4,995 to £4,495 before it went. sold or not I dont know, but I would reckon to part with the thick end of £3,900 if it's as good as it seems in the photos, maybe more depending on the collectability of the special edition. Why not google 924 turbo special editions and see what you get
 
Very nice.

I am a bit dubious about a 'Special edition of 100 cars for the UK market' as I have never heard of them. Gold line can be purchased at any motor shop and the fact that the cars retains the black rubbing trim makes it questionable.
Special edition 924's tend to have one or the other line.

However.
A one owner (garage excluded) 924 Turbo is not to be missed. One with that mileage, more so.

A 924 Turbo is a deleight to drive. It can see off many other fast Porsche (see my 'Manx Diary' in the current Porsche Post. The car I am driving is a series 2 924 Turbo) the road holding, braking and general hadling are exhemplorary.

I have owned, or still own, all of the 924 models exept the Carrera GT ( waiting for a lottery win) and must say that the Turbo is far and away my favourite.

If you don't get this car but continue looking for one there are a few points to look at.

A series 2 is an infinately better car than the series 1. You can tell the difference externally by the fact that the series 2 has side repeater indicators on the front wing. The power and performance are better and the the fuel consupmtion figures are much better.

Look at the service history and see when (if) the Turbo was changed / rebuilt.

As with any 924, look at the wireing. Anything new and different should make you run a mile.

Great cars, buy one.
 
Just to update anyone who might be interested. I viewed the 1982 Turbo today. the car has without doubt still got its original paint, however there were a number of issues that were obvious, and therefore did not quite mean the car was as new!!

Front bumper; Paint peeling of on top near o/s front light
Bonnett: Rust appearing, dull, needs respray
various stone chips, one bad on leading edge od n/s window
Fuel cap faded
Damp in boot, carpets need good clean due to mould
Drivers side electric window not working
Plastic trim around ashtray/gear lever broken
Steering wheel leather stitching coming of (very bad)
Brakes seized
Engine running very rough/rich/missing

The history was very good, and the owner very nice. States he put gold stripe on, but wheels came in gold. I did not drive car as it was not capable of being driven. However all this said, the car had something about it, it was original, although I could not do a HPi check as it did not recognise number. Any thoughts about value with all this in mind??

Sounds like a £1,000 car. Tops,

Don't worry about the srteering wheel, I have one spare and it would be very cheap.

Make the RIGHT decision there are a lot more out there.

Tried my best to buy car, but he insisted he wanted over £4000 for it!! Shame really, I did fancy it, but at the right price to do repairs etc.

Bide your time. There are a lot more out there.
Make sure you buy a series 2. They are faster, much better fuel consumption and kinder on Turbochargers. The giveaway is the Series 2 has side repeaters.

Get one that runs well it is cheaper and easier to make a car look pretty (if thats what you want) than make a prtty car run well.
