car details/spec needed

If I want to know what options were fitted to the car and what came as part of the standard spec, can I find this online some where using my car reg no and chassis number etc?

there is a sticker in the rear of the boot, behind the carpet and another in the handbook (or service book, can't remember which)

this lists the option codes.

when you have them you should be able to search for sites with a Porsche option decoder and plug them in.

If you are a PCGB Member you can apply for a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche HQ in Reading for free - for non members I think the cost is £65. It lists build date etc and will (should) include all the options your car had from the factory.

Or, if you find your sticker as mentioned above you can type the codes in here:

You can also apply to Porsche for a pretty certificate that lists the car's spec when supplied. £65, or free to Club members. They do tend to include errors, though, so the original stickers in the boot and manual are the most accurate way to tell.

If you give us the model and year I'm sure we could put together a pretty reliable original spec between us. [:)]

You are best off with the option sticker as others have said on this form. As for what features were standard for a given model year - all I can say is that I have been unable to find out. I've searched the web and contacted the dealer that delivered my car (no longer a Porsche dealer) to no avail.

I have a Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche (has engine and trans numbers but otherwise pretty useless except for official Porsche logos, etc. Porsche Cars North America charges about US$100 regardless of quality of the information or club membership). One issue is that "standard features" vary by the location the car was destined for when built. E.g. US cars had both air bags standard by 1988 or 1989 - my 1991 S2 imported from Japan, left hand drive, sunroof delete has no airbags and a ROW VIN number - there would have been an option code for "prepared for Japan" if the sticker was still in place (had been intentionally removed). Given that all the under-bonnet stickers are in Japanese - I'm pretty sure this was a "prepared for Japan" model vs an ROW car "re-stickered" by the dealer.

The other observation I can make is it appears that the wiring harness was pretty standard by 1991 - mine was wired for both 4 speaker and 10 speaker stereo systems although I believe it was "prepared for radio" when delivered (it had a Sony stereo plug neatly grafted into the harness, only 4 speakers and no equalizer). I suspect there are other features that were standardized for production efficiencies.

If you find any documentation on what was included in various "standard" builds I'm sure everyone here would be glad to know. Just thinking - perhaps if one could access the sales literature and owners manuals for each year and model a reasonable list of features might be assembled ?

just checked - you will find it on p4 of the red guarantee & maintenance booklet that has all the service stamps (as long as you have the book)
