Cannot remove radio!

[FONT=verdana, geneva"]A Pioneer unit has been installed into 964.... usual arrangement, silvery metallic outer, and radio then slid into it. So far so good. Also, I have Pioneer removal keys. So on the face of it better.... BUT.....

The keys dont work and although the radio is coming out from the left side, the right side (both silver carrier AND radio) is stuck.

Before I start pulling the dash to pieces, has anyone come across this typeof thing before? And any ideas?

Thanks!!!!![FONT=verdana,geneva"]

Chris,

The usual thing is for the radio to slide into and lock with the surround which is itself located into the dash aperture by tabs which are bent into place behind the dash. The removal keys which you have should allow the radio to be released from the surround and the surround itself should then be removeable once you have located and straightened the locking tabs.

If your 964 is the early type with the open under-dash area it's not so bad since you can fairly easily get your hand up behind the radio. With the later type which has the leg protector under the dash it's a bit more difficult.

Depending on the model of radio I've found that you often have to remove the outer bezel before you can insert the releasing keys.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Dave

yep, try removing the outer bezel thing from arond the head unit; "its likely you're going in the wrong hole" (said the actress to the bishop)

failing that go to halfords and act dumb; the guys in the radio fitting bit/workshop love a laugh and if you can handle them sniggering (safe in the knowledge you're packing 4x the engine capacity of most of them) then they are the solution! also although they will ikely drive corsa's or similar, they are all car nuts, and will fall over themselves to give you a hand just so they can take a look around the car [;)]
