CAMSHAFTS

has anyone any idea about changing your camshafts as a sensible upgrade. I have a 3.0sc on webers in an early car, and during a recent inspection we took the head off and realised i have one original camshaft (1979) and one from a 964 (1992ish). This can never be right or good for the car so a change is required and with the constant requirement for more power wondered what a sensible upgrade would be. Ive been told 911s cams are good but it is all top end power. Any thoughts would be much appreciated. And if you had some lying around in your loft even better!

Are you sure the original cam is exactly that? They can be reground to different specs and this may be the case with yours...

It may be best to have them checked by a cam specialist to be certain they are what you believe them to be before deciding what to do next.

The 964 cam is supposed to be a good upgrade on the 3 litre engines - suggest you have a browse on the Pelican website http://forums.pelicanparts.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=3 to get a feel for what others have done - there are literally hundreds of posts on there that relate to engine upgrades.

Good luck.

I would agree with this, however since posting the question we have found many more problems with the engine. Considering i bought this as a rebuilt engine 3 years ago, there is so much wrong with this engine, nothing is new or rebuilt! It seems they built an engine up from bits on the floor and two different camshafts would not surprise me. I am now buying another engine to solve the longterm expense of putting everything right. However the good news is there is a good crank and crank case for sale, and possibly a good mechanical injection of the new engine i am buying, as I will be running webers.
