cambelt replacement prices

i'm getting the prices today for the cambelt/balance belt replacements from my local mechanic, plus i'm ringing around specialists to compare.

now the cambelt and balance belts are a given, so what price should i expect for them to be done?

also, i've told the garage to inspect the cam chain and slippers, so what ball park figure would you expect for the belts, chain and slippers to be done? i want to compare prices to see the difference between a good local and an indie.

what have you guys paid for the work to be done?

cheers,

Al.

my local garage did the job in 6 hours...same as was quoted by my nearest independent dealer. Therefore budget for a multiple of 6 hours and your garage hourly rate. Put in a contingency for unexpected sundries.
Here is the breakdown for belts and chain job I asked for.
Belts and chain £132
Top and bottom tensioner repair kit £75
6 hours labour £ 305
Sub-total £512

Contingencies.
Idler and roller kit...all knackered on inspection £170
Camshaft seal kit. £63
£233

All prices inclusive of VAT and delivery. My local garage charges £40 per hour. Did a great job.

so that was £745 for the cam and balance belts, cam chain and idlers/rollers, tensioners the lot?

oki doki, the garage i use charges £38 p/h plus vat, so should, in theory (taking the same 6 hours) roughly give or take 12 quid or so, the same price.
i'll get the price this afternoon and then start comparing with an indi.

Yes, everything is replaced. The only place I could find top and bottom camchain slippers was via my OPC. Everything else was sourced from Berlyn. There were a couple of extra issues with knackered boltheads but replacements from OPC was very cheap @ £1 per bolt.

EMC Motorsport (www.emcmotorsport.com) charge around (IIRC) £350. That involves changing all belts and tensioners (5 in the case of the S2), and checking the cam timing on an S2 and checking the cam chain and advising on replacement.

cheers so far guys!!

i'm going to get the cambelt done and rollers, tensioners, idlers, sliper pads, cam chain and water pump, the full hit.
i have budget'd 1k for all this, and i hope!! it'll be enough [&:]

i want it all done so as i know they've been done and it'll give me another 4 years or so before the belts will need doing again so a relitivly small cost thereafter................

was waiting for a call back from the guys in birkenhead Lemon rec'd, but they never phoned back with a price. see what the morrow brings [:D]

I think thats avery fair budget...should have enough left over for a new set of tyres!

i hope it is! [&:]

doesnt need tyres at the mo, but what i have left will be put towards a brake overhall next year, and i want to get the handbrake mech and bits rebuilt.
