Hartech used to have a very good all encompassing menu of prices on their website but now it only shows the basic service prices. I always found their prices to be on the cheaper end of the scale (compared to round here) so I would have thought £300ish would be in their ballpark. The cost will increase if the rollers are due at the same time, and even worse if the waterpump is old

Also Mark - dont try to do it yourself. If youd done a couple of 8v belts without a problem then maybe, but without any relevant experience then Id strongly advise against. One further point: theres a cam belt and a balance shaft belt, along with a number of rollers and possibly a waterpump - the belt needs a special tool and the rollers and pump need an experienced touch. Simon
Simon, I agree, just watched a video and it does indeed look a pain in the backside to do, not doing that but would like to see it done and assist. Looked on the bill from last time, was Sept 2008 at about 98k, its on 114 now so its due on time if not mileage. It cost £295 for the belts at Hartech, it had new cams and tensioners listed as well and a clutch, two grand plus, the owner before that in 2005 and 2005 had bills for 3000 and 2000 respectively, gear knob was £169 apparently, full suspension refurb including new struts, rear shocks and all manner of trim and stuff, scary.
If it's only £300 I'm in, my belt was done 19,000 miles ago, so it's only on age (2007) which probably means pullys and water pump are ok.

Here are a couple of videos to watch. Will help you decide if you are up to the task or not. It is pretty involved. I haven't decided yet if I will try over the next winter layup but I really should be changing the head gasket as a precaution as apparently the S2 can suffer sudden overheating and damage from eroded head gaskets. Mine is only 50k miles but its still 22 years old this year. This one is belts and water pump change http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1P0n1DXMto This one is the "20k" service http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTzsEUuXPHc SORRY - didn't notice that you had watched the video[

I doubt itORIGINAL: 944 man Shocking if they go wrong - makes Imprezas look cheap.
Thanks Bruce it's too much for me, I'll go to Hartech later in the season. a full service will probably turn up about £1000 by the time the've found a few "extras", no such thing as cheap motorsport..............
