Braved it and put the old phone down the vent trick. And there seems to be a plate in there so I can't see or am I doing something a wrong?

Don't think so Greg. The cab will have extra bracing in the cills to compensate for the loss of the roof rigidity, and although I am not certain, if you have photograped towards the rear then that is probably what you are seeing but there will be others, I am sure, who will explain better than me. From what we can see it doesn't look at all bad though.

That cant be a 944 sill, there is no rust, it should look like under sea shots of the Titanic, but rustier.

borescope?

Mine are clean with a lovely coat of a wax so haven't explored any further, I think there are access points on the inner sill on a coupe, not looked on the cab yet,

Greg I should be down in Oxford visiting family first weekend in August, if not before. I've got a (cheap!) scope I could bring down and hook up to a laptop so you can have a nose in your sills if you like? Image quality isn't the best - well it is ok, focal length is just very short - but you will see quite easily if it's rusty in there or not

Let me know ;)

Cheers

No worries, I'll bring the Kleenex! [:D]

Got a good look in mine today, could be a lot worse, bit of rust and one pin hole which I have cut out ready to weld new metal in, the snake cam showed that it is mostly grey in there, all the structural pressings are intact, it is worst at the back but I have cut that out, getting sick of cutting my car up !
