c-Tek multi XS4003

I have the C-Tek multi XS4003 battery charger, and when it's on my 2010 Cayman, it starts the charging sequence ok, this is not from a discharged state, just when I am going to leave it for a few weeks.Its plugged into the central cig lighter.
After about 10 days or so, it enters the final stage of charging, the maintenance section, which I'm told can stay connected for many months, but after a few hours, the red error light comes up and it just sits there doing nothing.
The battery seems fine and has plenty of life for starting the car.
Any ideas?

Mine ceased to operate properly and some research on the www came up with various odd behaviours as devices started to fail. I sent a support request via the ( ctek.com ) manufacturer's site (not the distributors) and got a response within 2 hours. Mine was failing and being over 5 years old and out of warranty I got a new one delivered from Amazon the next day.
 
Seriously, £13.99 fom ALDI will get you a charger similar to the ctek. If its out of warranty I would buy one now. There are a few of us up here using them.
 
I recall it did not make progress along the array of lights and just stopped part way. We were going on extended holiday two days later so needed to get something working quickly.
 
Steve, Before buying a new unit I'd recommend that you try connecting directly to the battery using either the crocodile clips or the eyelet cabling rather than using the cigarette lighter socket. The problem may well be with the socket connection rather than the charger. I started using the lighter socket for my CTEK XS 3600 charger but found that after a few months the unit began flickering between the green and red lights when left for a few days on charge. Since then I've connected directly to the battery and haven't had any problems in the past 5 years. Jeff
 
Hmmm Motörhead , perhaps the cig socket doesn't like to pass current both ways, which is what happens, I believe, when in the final mode. I'll try it tomorrow , and wait until it is in the last stage and then see. Thanks for this Cheers Steve WS

Or Lidl. I have a Ctek 3600XS and a Lidl one (also £13.99) and they work as well as each other. Like Jeff, I use the battery eyelets (with a 5A fuse in line) and don't have any problems. Although the Porsche (Ctek) one has the cig lighter plug, I always find the connection a bit flaky, compared with connecting directly to the battery. I've also had to replace the Ctek plug on the charger (intermittent bad connection), which was giving me the symptoms you describe, so worth checking that too.
 
Had the Porsche trickle charger ( rebadged cTek ) which hadvthe mode switch fail, since then got one of the Aldi supplied items to which I fitted a plug to connect to the cig socket, I also have one from LIDL with clips which has been used on other cars where the lighter socket is not live with ignition off, both work fine.
 
Update I've connected it directly to the battery, it's now at the penultimate stage, so I'm waiting until it decides to finish, then I'll see what it does and report back. Thanks one and all. SWS
