Bye bye 964

After 16 years of ownership, I've said goodbye to my beloved 964 C2.

I've had to make this sacrifice to build an extension and, hopefully, enough left over for a 987 Cayman S.

Thanks to Mark for putting me in touch with a buyer who made the job quick and painless. I ended up within 2% of what I wanted for it. It was good to find out what a straight and original car it is.

I know there were a number of expensive jobs looming, including a suspension refresh, but this didn't faze the buyer in the same way it might put your average private buyer, including me, off.

The end of an era [:(]

Was the buyer a trader or private ?

The 964s of all guises are being bought up and sent over to Singer. 30+ went recently.

So values can only go one way

Sad times - hope the extension makes up for it [;)]

Suspension renewal shouldn't actually put many informed buyers off. Allows for some customisation, choice and set-up preferences a many. Probably preferred (for me anyway) that something is left that needs to be done/upgraded.

Yeah, massive shame that many retro or backdaters are scooping up very roadworthy 964's with plenty of life and years left in them. Demonstrates the engineering greatness and stability of the 964 chassis.

Sent to Singer in the US? There was that pic on insta last year showing Singer's back yard stacked with 964's. Apparently they've stocked up with 400+ 964's.

Frustrating. Think they're buying up anything available in preventing any competition gaining ground. Still don't get the absurd proces being asked or expected for them.

I think they send some for restomods, some they have a buyer in Australia, others they fix up for sale. Mark would be able to shed more light on this.
The buyer (trade) was in France the day before picking up 4 cars.
If it goes for restomod, at least it will live forever.

Glad to hear all went well with the sale. We do have some very good buyers registered, some repeat buyers, which gives me confidence in connecting sellers with them. No one wants to be messed around or have their time wasted with buyers who want independent inspections or have their mate poke around your car for hours.

I do hear of Australia being a big buyer of 964's at the moment, the value of them over there is huge compared to here, which is crazy enough. No idea on how or who is getting cars there however.

Singer do buy cars from all over, I would love to see where they are and the process, perhaps something I can look into for something for the magazine. I'm all for the 964 being kept on the road, in whatever guise.

The 964 has become the go to chassis of choice for all of the resto-modders, so numbers are certainly falling for original cars and could explain why they always seem to be pretty thin on the ground at meets/shows compared to other models, or maybe that is just me. I still want a car that needs work to make into a fast road example but I just can't get hold of one for good money! I'm sure the day will come when Singer have their own chassis.

Good to read a good report and glad I could be of help to make an easy sale.

Yup, I too don't see that many (if at all) 964's anywhere. Was at Bicester Heritage yesterday for the 911 60th birthday meet. The only other 964 there was a targa. Plenty of G series and a few 356's (which is always good to see). The rest a sea of watercooled's and a ton of GT's. 964 a gradual dying breed..

Mark, was it somewhere in the forum you posted up few months back some monthly 964 numbers being exported (USA/Singer, Belgium etc)? Do you have any access to latest info or numbers? Brother-in-law in Perth saying zero 964's available and actually really silly money too elsewhere - says it's cheaper to go for a low mileage 991 or even a 992.

I saw a 964 at my Indy’s that was being prepped for export to Singer - there was a 12 page report to fill in. Had to measure between all sorts of points to make sure it was straight, that was of far more importance than anything else.

I did hear that Singer try to buy up C4s and Tips first and foremost as they’re aware they don’t want to be removing all the manual C2s from the pool.
