breaking in new engine

I have a new 997 turbo arriving next month. what is the process for breaking the engine in?

general rule is under 2000 miles keep revs below 6500 and for first 1500 less than 5500 and first 500 less than 4500 -just my rule -others may be more/less cautious

Can't speak for other current models, but on the 997GT3 there is no running in period. The engine is ready to go.

Views are mixed on this, but there is a strong body of opinion that favours giving the engine full revs very early in its life in preference to restricting them.

I thought the running in procedure for modern engines was to make sure you use the full rev range - right up to the red line - but for very short periods of time.

i.e. Drive normally but don't drive above 4500rpm for any sustained period. and DO accelerate right to the red line now and again before going back to normal revs.

I'd go (and indeed did) with dyllan suggestion, True the Porsche engines are bench tested prior to fitment to the car, but the rest of the car hasn't exactly had time to bed in...

I suppose it also depends on how much mechanical sympathy one has...[&:]
