Looking to renew Breakdown cover, mainly recovery, i was with GEM who were good but did not cover the 944's, what recommendations are there on here apart from the AA who i have fallen out with (took money without authorisation)
Cheers Jim.

I was suprised to find out how many classic quotes include basic breakdown cover so that may be the way to go, even if you need a slight cover upgrade.

Best of luck

I'm with ADAC (German recovery giant) who appear very reasonable for Europe wide cover at about £66 year, inc home start, onward recovery etc, (plus membership), they use AA when in the UK, and are the only recovery service that cover the Nurburgring. Whenever I have called they have spoken perfect English and dealt with me quickly and professionally. The one and only time I called them from the UK, the AA guy who turned up had no idea I wasnt a regular AA member so they appear the treat you exactly the same. Perfect if you travel in Europe and still pretty good if you dont.

For value for money and service I dont think you can get better, the only slight issue is payment has to be made by sending fax or bank transfer.

Best insurance you can buy IMO.

Was with the RAC, but after being a member for 25+ years with only 5 call outs they decided to double my renewal price after one bad year. []

Weighing up my options decided to switch my breakdown cover to a policy that is thrown in as part of my current account at my bank...... I get full AA breakdown cover, worldwide travel insurance, mobile insurance and quite a few other tit-bits thrown in.

So far only had to call them out once, and they had me running again within 30 minutes.

ADAC are great (I'm with them, and had a car recovered from Germany last year after a mechanical failure)

Two points

1. Their recovery service in the UK is limited to €200 of towing, so around 25 miles. After that you have to pay. This is often debated, but I have actually used the service. It's unlimited on the continent but..

2. They will not recover cars to the UK if they deem them write-offs - usually because the repair costs are too high, or the recovery costs are more than the car's worth. Sounds strange I know, but it is very common for European recovery services, AA included. They will not deliver to UK domestic addresses as their wagons are huge so the car needs to go to a garage.

Just re-insured the Golf with Adrian Flux, many major mods declared and agreed value.

Add on to the premium is full cover incl home start, relay and 60 days european recovery for.....................................£35

i used to be an rac patrol for 5 years in edinburgh and although the guys are very good and highly skilled there are not enough to provide a quality service and they are paying people off to make it worse even if you have fell out with aa they are the best provider out there with a huge patrol force most insurance companies used local garage who carry nothing for repairs even temp fixes so just hook you up and tow you home i for 1 used to go the extra mile to fix everyones car especially if it was an interesting car most companies sell you cover with the direct debit ongoing so they can keep your buisness and its up to" YOU" to cancel it before renewal day if you dont they up the premium and take your cash hence your fall out with aa i think hope this helps

Cheers Repsol,
The AA kept on putting up my premium, even though i had never rang / used them in 10 years +i cancelled my DD but they had credit card details and took the money from that, i am looking at joining ADAC on Coppermans recomendation (who happen to use the AA in the UK)
