Breakdown cover - alternatives to the RAC or AA

Never had to use it though, so haven't put it to the test.
This is not strictly breakdown cover because it is an insurance against breakdown. You still call them to get a garage truck out to your car but it works by you paying for the recovery (up to five people anywhere in the UK) and then claiming it back from AutoAid.They claim to repay you in 14 days but we've never had to claim (touch wood).

There are a lot of restrictions on the "free" breakdown cover I get with my insurance.

Not added European cover but it is cheap to add.Previously with Green Flag(no complaints ) but they wouldn't include the track car under their personal cover as it's over 16 yrs old yet the cover was based on my wife's car extending to the BMW under the Personal cover!

You can either call the autoaid breakdown number and they'll sort it or you call your own local friendly recovery company and submit their invoice as I did with the TVR.
Also, because it's only £40 whether you use it or not, it's cheaper than the AA, RAC etc etc.
Great choice Julius

I mention it only because we had cause to use them whilst in France this summer. Split turbo intake in Limoges, so lots of black smoke but it still ran, so we carried on...however they were very attentive. When first phoned they immediately offered a replacement car, then when we said we'd soldier on they called twice daily to see how things were going. Impressive.
Worst case, they would have flown me home then back again to collect the car after a local repair. A good bodge in the end by local mechanic in la France Profond got us home.
