break from 944s what might i consider ?

Lo all , i know we are all car enthusiasts and enjoy other cars not
'just' 944's so thought it would be interesting to get your thoughts on a '944 replacement'.

I have had an itch for a long time for a 4 wheel drive and considered a celica gtfour or an early
(pre big spoiler etc) imprezza of evo. It would have to be an unmolested one not souped or chavved up suitable for showing etc.

Any thoughts / opinions just for fun ?

I have a Subaru imperza P1 (running 500+bhp) best A to B car that I ever owned ...but its far from standard .

you could try a Impreza 22B, or a Sti V type R,
 
I had the Alfasud sprint in my youth (2 in fact ) was the best front wheel drive hatch till the 205 1.9 Gti came on the market(which i also had )
 
When i was about 18 and couldnt possibly get insured on one i was mad for an alfa sprint ' the coupe looking one ? Not the shorter one. What a sexy looking/sounding car they were.
 
Legacy bilstein edition little bit rare and i believe they are estate only so nice and practical bit of a q car. Or something like a galant vr4.
Basically an impreza or evo but without the chavvy connetations

Completely left field but I know someone who is prepping to sell a 50th anniversary landie, and I have major lust for the thing. I feel this says a lot about how my interests in non-track cars has changed somewhat over the past few years.
 
Out of the two you mention Celica GT4. A boss of mine years back had one new. Awesomely quick car and good, fun handling too!
 
On the basis of your reasons for losing interest in the 944, and not getting even the small things fixed as it was a hassle, maybe one of the modern, comfortable, reliable cruisers is more the thing you would actually use? Old cars are fine if you want to spend every weekend under them, or paying a specialist to do it for you, but cars depreciate so much you don't need to do that if you just want something a bit different.

Big saloons are laughably cheap, built to be run as executive minicabs for millions of miles, and if you can live with losing some of the electrical "luxuries" if they fail you shouldn't get bogged down in endless chasing of niggly faults. A really comfortable car, effortlessly fast and relaxing; it does appeal if you're not after the sheer driving pleasure of a sports car. In which case only a 944 is a sensible suggestion.

A8, S-class, 7-series, big Lexus? £10K buys an awful lot these days.

 
i have had many turbo jap cars in the past, the best of the bunch tbh is the evo! i have had most jap cars, and nothing is quite as quick out of the box as an evo. i had a v2 impreza wrx sti type ra aswell, and tbh the evo would spank it.

i currently have an evo 4, which i took round goodwood when it was in near standard form, around 300hp, stock brakes and suspension. nothing overtook me all day, nothing kept up with me, and i overtook pretty much everything there, including new gtr, new 911s, caterhams etc etc. they are unreal down a good a or b road.
i have now thrown 10k at the evo which is my current track toy. the power is the same, but i have gone to town with chassis mods and making it lightweight. it now runs wide arches, alcon 6 pot 360mm race discs and calipers with pf01 pads, rollcage, bucket seats, coilover suspension, spherical bearing adjustable suspension arms, 18x10inch wheels with r888 or slicks, and much more!

there is only one word for the car now, and thats incredible! the next step is to forge the engine and strap a bigger turbo on it, and go for around 500hp. at which point nearly nothing will stay with it on track. a 700hp evo in time attack set a new lap record for a non single seater car at cadwell the other week, in a 4 door saloon car!

basically what im saying is evo is king of the jap car world when it comes to pure pace. and tbh you dont see a lot of them around any more, espcially in comparison to subarus which are everywhere!
if you were to get an evo, i would recommend a 5 or 6, they are the pick of the bunch and can be had for sensible money. a tommi makkinen version is ideal, and they wont drop in value either!
