Stick with OE. Upgrade to me means bigger OE. If you stay the same size then you can't beat Porsche. Howver, if you're fitting new discs then you will be fitting new pads and the OE offering can be improved upon. Lots to chose from but Pagid will probably be favoured by the majority for road use.

I used EBC Greenstuff for a couple of years on the road and found them to be an upgrade on the OE offerings. Worked well from cold and had a good bite - dust didn't stick to the wheels which was a bonus. However, I found them about as good as OE on the track. Good pads but Pagid are more widely used. EBCs are cheap for whatthey are.

I agree - I found the OE setup faded once I got used the car some 5 years ago! I run Michelin Cup tyres and the grip under braking is superb - I've found Porterfields and SRF more than up to the job even on open pit lane days where I run for 30 minutes at a time. I was running 322mm discs with std calipers in the front and OE rears, replacing the front discs every year through cracking (bear in mind that open pit lane days mean 150 - 200 miles of track driving). I also had a scoop cut into the front undertray and ducting added to channel cold air to the calipers.
At that last track day of last year I seized a rear caliper and my fronts could do with a rebuild. Add to that the 4 new discs that are needed!
The car is at Bob Watsons hopefully proving the theory that GT3 calipers and discs will fit a 993 (with some mods) and are available at a reasonable price! 380mm, 6 pot GT3 fronts and 322 993 RS rears. Bob is moving me to performance friction as it's his preference - hope there're as good as the porterfields.

I've tried various pads OE, EBC Green and Red, Ferodo DS2000. Porterfields are streets ahead. That said I've heard good things about PF and Pagid. Given the difference the pads made I think cooling ducts and SRF with OE pads would not solve my problem.
I assume that cracking comes from heat and with a relatively heavy car (std 993) and driver! with sticky tyres, loads of heat goes through the discs and calipers. Some justification for the, now confirmed, upgrade at Bob's is the desire to keep my discs for more than a season! The 380mm brakes are excessive but I got a great price on parts and they won't be nearly as stressed as the old 322mm....and of course they're painted red so they must stop more quickly!
