Hi All
I'm new here as have finally decided to get my old 1999 boxster on the road.
When I connect battery horn/alarm sounds so obviously I have an initial issue.
But any advice where to start the journey or resources to use much appreciated, I have very limited mechanical experience, so maybe a good manual or videos would be a starting point.
Thanks in advance - Andy

Hi Andy,

I’d agree with Clive’s comment about fluids, fuel and engine oil in particular, and if you’re trying to fire her up after a lengthy layup it’s not a bad idea to remove the coil packs and plugs and motor the engine for a while to let the oil circulate.

It could be that the problem you mention is due to a dead battery in your key fob, especially if it’s not been used for a while. Try replacing the battery and pairing the fob to the car … check your driver’s manual for the appropriate procedure. Also, these cars are very sensitive to the condition of the car’s battery and you need to be confident that it’s in tip-top condition; if in doubt replace it.

BTW your post would be better placed in the Boxster/Cayman section of the forum. One of the Administrators will be able to move it for you.

Hi Andrew,I have a copy of a Workshop Manual for the Boxster 986 produced by Bentley Manuals which covers all aspects of Boxster maintenance, servicing and general information,in as new condition if this would be of interest,

Wayne Dempsey's Boxster book on simple through to full engine rebuild beautifully written and photographed is a must imho.

If you are not handy with car maintenance I would seek out a local independent Porsche specialist and chat it through with them.

Was on the road start of the summer as passed the mot and has run around a couple of times. Fluids changed then.

Disconnected the battery as each time I connect it the alarm or horn goes off, so that's my start point, this seemed to happen after heavy rain so I'm thinking water ingress into the immobiliser or the alarm system somehow
