I have a Boxster 986 S and both cables have snapped to release the rear boot. Anyone had a similar issue and gained access with minimal/no damage

Is the electro magnetic release responding at all, even when using a booster battery connected?

Is there any tail on the manual release you can see and connect vice grips to

Not a good thing to fix.
Have you pressed lightly down on the tailgate by the rear latch and someone else finger the electric release at the same time, so taking as much of the drag off the mechanism as possible?
As above, I had to do the vice grip approach on the front bonnet on my 987.2 which worked, but far from easy.

Maybe a call to a Porsche indie for suggestions as they could have some tricks to share? You can always drop a bottle of wine to them..

Good luck, please let us know the solution.

Think I might have found a way to get to the latch by removing the bumper and there’s an opening at either side of the bumper, just by the rear lights covered by a foam flap. Fortunately the plastic cover on the latch is removed so that you can access the pin that the cables are attached to (both cables are snapped) a long rigid piece of wire with a hook on the end should do the trick. Found this on another forum. My Saturday task.
