Is it only me or has anyone else paid the extra for the BOSE any wondered why they had bothered, I think the sound quality is awfull, there dosen't seem to be any roundness/fullness to the sound, have tried all the different setting and just can't get what I think is a good sound.

Listening to everything from A.O.R to classical.

I have it but I have to admit I'm not sure the package is anything special. I haven't played around with the settings much (which seem to be no more advanced than the standard sound system) but there does seem to be a lot of bass.
The speed sensitive volume works well but can't really tell if the noise cancellation is adding much to the quality. Perhaps paying for the little Bose badge on the door panels?

There are upgrades to the standard systems that will out perform the BOSE system.
In fact it's easier to archive on the standard system!

Have to say I think it is very good. But I consider the limited space inside a 911 to preclude the best quality compared to the inside of a 4 x 4.

I've been very happy with the Bose in the Turbo, not found it to be either perfect nor have I found it wanting for too much.
A nice clear sound which is what I was after.. however the guys Saxo down the road is louder...[]

As with your hi fi at home, spend 80% on your speakers and 20% on your amplifier. I have had Bose speakers for 20years at home....best £300 i have ever spent. As for the Bose in the car, I find to get the best out of it, avoid using copied cds. Other than that, well up to Bose's high standard. Keep on rockin.

I've had BOSE on both my 911's..............and been very happy with it - not been in a car without it for comparison purposes though.

On the other hand my Aston std stereo was frankly horrific as was the one in my SEAT (I know a much cheaper car).

It has taught me never to be cheap when it comes to stereo equipment....

I have a 997tt with the Bose system and it is OK, not as good as the Bose in my old Audi A8 but the 911 is a far more noisy environment than the A8, so that is understandable. Just enjoy the sounds of the 911 and accept that the sound system will never be as anywhere near as good as a decent home hifi, but you can travel a hell of a lot faster in the 911 thaan you can in your armchair!

Bose IMHO is much better than the standard stereo in the Porsche but it is OK rather than fantastic (it doesn't hold a candle to the Mark Levinson system in the Lexus or Naim in Bentley).

So, I am agreeing with the others so far, its pleasant, listen-able - albeit for personal taste you may need to fiddle a bit with the controls to optimise it for your listening tastes but its not award winning blow your mind stuff either.

As pointed out, a 911 is a noisy place with lots of tyre/road noise and other factors that would degrade the quality of any hifi, so its probably good enough to live with and enjoy the sounds of the engine. In fact for 3k to change speakers (if the source isn't up to it, the better speakers won't make a difference anyway) you could put a very nice Miltek sports exhaust on and it would sound even nicer................[]

I would say if you go for cabrio - Bose is a must. Gives much better sound when top is open

I dont think you have much of a choice as the standard system is just not good enough.
I agree with the others, the noise is the main factor in the 911.
I listened to the Bose demo car at Porsche Silverstone, and the quiet parked car system sounded very good. Its the other things that drone out the quality music.

Agree here, have Bose in my Audi and Porsche, ok, realy Bose push the Base sound, not anything that Special much prefer Harmon Kardon, B & O , but of all I have owned the Mark Levington in the Lexus is amazing
