Big Brake conversion for Turbot

I want, as an interim measure, to upgrade to BIG RED spec brakes at the front with 322mm discs.

The calipers from 993TT should bolt straight on. The problem is front discs.

If I use the discs from a 993TT, I will need 5mm adaptors.

However, I believe that the 911c2 Turbo uses the same size discs as the 928GTS (difference is that GTS are solid face, 911c2 are drill / cast hole ventilated), and would not require spacers, but rather be a direct fitment.

I appreciate that

a) I could gain up to 4 lbs unsprung weight using these bigger cast discs rather than the separate aluminium spacer route.

b) I will have to swap the unions and crossover pipe to correct orientation because of leading vs trailing orientation.

c) I also have larger than 16" rims, so clearance won' t be a problem.

Has anyone else done this yet ?

Not sure about the Turbot. I believe the job is easier on a Halibut.

Take a look at http://www.paragon-products.com/

They do a big red kit for m030 equipped 944' s at $1162 for non-drilled disks and OE pads or $1076 for drilled diss and OE pads.

This works out to approx £720 plus whatever the customs men get you for.

A lot of the US tuners list big red conversion kits with everything you need rather than trying to get a bit here or there, or from an OPC over here [&:]

I wonder why the drilled discs are cheaper?

I also wonder what kit I would need as I have late Turbo but with 968CS M030 suspension?

That' s similar to what I have in mind. Depending on pads selected, I' m costing it at under £1,000 inc VAT using all new OPC parts.

I must admit I have never seen any prices advertised over here and always thought the OPC would be exorbitant, though I did hear recently that the callipers themselves were approx £300 which is not bad. Make sure you get your full club discount, and it may be worth contacting quite a few different OPC' s as they often vary wildly in price []
