Battery

Quick question for a new member. Can I DIY replace the battery (if so which brand is recommended ) or does the car have to be taken to an OPC/Independent ?
Thanks

It’s a simple DIY job on your 987.2 Aide. Make sure that the ignition is switched off then disconnect the negative terminal first, remove the clamp and vent pipe and just lift the battery out. It’s very heavy, and I found it better to stand in the boot space rather than risking straining my back. Fitting the new battery is the reverse procedure.

There’s plenty of choice for the replacement depending upon your budget, though you can’t really go wrong with a Bosch or Varta battery. You may need to reset the windows single-shot operation, and probably there’ll be a few warning lights when the ignition is turned on, but these should disappear quickly once you’re under way.

Unlike the 981 and 718 the 987 doesn’t have a battery monitoring system which needs to be reset when a new battery is installed.

You will likely get a scary PSM failure warning when you connect the new battery - drive is slowly around the block and that will go.

Also - windows need to be taught top and bottom limits for one touch operation. Open the window fully, let go of the switch, then "open" it again and hold for 5 seconds. Close fully and repeat the close, let go, close again, 5 secs. Obviously need to do both sides.

There's a throttle adaptation reset as well - turn on the ignition and leave it for at least 30 secs without starting the engine. You may notice a rough idle when you 1st start as it's relearning but again - sorts itself out.

Above is exactly what I had when I fitted a new Bosch battery to my 987.2/2009 Boxster.

As said, the battery is very heavy!
