Battery flat - how to open bonnet?

Hello, a friend of mine has a 996 which has remained untouched in his garage for the past 3 months. As you can guess, the battery is totally flat and the electric bonnet release won't work. Is there a manual release somewhere or is there an alternative way around this?

And yes, he's going to buy a battery conditioner!

Inside the fuse box there is a little leaflet that tells you how to connect a spare battery to release the bonnet.
There is also a manual release that is a pig to get to - and which probably shouldn't be discussed on a forum (why tell everyone how to nick stuff from your car?!)

On my 996 you can connect a battery charger to terminals in the drivers footwell. Can't he do this and then charge the battery and get the engine started?

This is very well described in the user manual with diagrams. It is towards the end under , "Practical Tips, Emergency Service". It is titled "Emergency unlocking of the luggage compartment lids".

Which is why there is a little leaflet in the fuse box that tells you how to do it as well (see above[])
