Hi

What are the thoughts/recommendations on trickle chargers for a 981 Cayman?

I use an Optimate for my bikes and have done for years as they tend to have smaller batteries. However I notice there are numerous posts about keeping the Porsche batteries topped up, somet I’ve never bothered about on a car.

My car sits outside but easy enough to connect, would folk advise an Optimate or Ctek?
As I mentioned, I have used various Optimates for over 25 yrs odd no problems, but interested to hear anyone’s has genuine advantage/disadvantages on either make.

I can’t comment on OptiMate vs CTEK, but I’ve been using my - now very old - CTEK on my 987.2 CS for more than 15-years without major issues [the mode selection button is a bit dodgy; a known fault with them due to a poor contact]. My car is garaged and always connected to the CTEK when not in use, and I only had to replace the original Moll battery a few months ago, which is testimony to the benefits of using a battery maintainer of any type.

From my own experience I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend a CTEK, but if you’re equally happy with the OptiMate offerings then I’m sure they’d make fine alternatives.

Just note that as with most modern cars - those with stop-start especially - it’s important to keep the battery in tip-top condition to avoid electrical gremlins … usually indicated by the display lighting up like a Christmas tree!😳
