Battery Changed and now have PSM and ABS Lights on

Can someone give me some advice.

After changing the battery my PSM and ABS lights are on all the time. I have read that driving it helps but the 60 miles I covered today and they are still on.

I cant think what else it could be?

Try checking the brake lights. I think if a filament has gone it can bring those lights on (bizarre but apparently true!) And the brake light switch can cause problems too. Also did you do the DME reset? Ignition on for 1 minute without starting and then off for 10 seconds. Don't know about the 996 but on the 997 the steering angle sensor needs recalibrating after a battery change too, I think.

You shouldn't need to reset the ABS/PSM after a battery disconnect on a 996. You can try the procedure for a 997, but I don't think it will do anything. http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=770011

I suspect that Gordon is correct, and it needs diagnosing/resetting with a Porsche tester. If you are near me, I'd be happy to do it for you. It coult be what Alan says - brake pedal switch is a favourite - but I think it unlikely that disconnecting the battery would cause it to play up. A diagnosic check would also show that, if it were the case.

I'm not too far away in Surrey and would love to take you up on the diagnostic and to meet the great man himself. I will try the actions suggested above and check the lights first before I use up your valuable time.

What voltage reading are you getting with the engine switched on and off? If the battery you put in isn't powerful enough PSM and ABS may start to play up (assuming a faulty alternator/diode pack wasn't the real reason behind the original power loss)
 
I had the same happen when I disconnected the battery to change the steering wheel a couple of months back. The lights kept coming and going but I haven't seen them on for a few weeks now. Hopefully it's job done :)
