Badges. Is this the most petty post ever?

Ok, I've got the 944S 2 bits back, and some great pics as to where they should be fitted thanks to you guys. But....

I know this is really small stuff. But, the S2 badge is expensive, £35 seems to be the cheapest. Mine is in fine condition, but fixing it is a problem.

The S2 badge is 5 separate items: each one has a hollowed-out back, with trim tape fitting into the recesses. I can't see a way toeasily trim all that original fixing out of the recesses, so I have three options:

Fit it with new trim tape, so it stands too far off the car , attracts dirt and makes cleaning even more difficult.

Spend £35 on a small badge, and feel bitter for many years that my old one was perfectly good.

Fit a vinyl decal. Easy to fiit, easy to clean, but does anyone know of a reasonably-priced option?

Have you tried Tardis or HG Sticky Stuff Remover to get the old trim tape out? I had to get the remnants of old wheel weights off, and those worked. Watch yourself with Tardis - it's got Xylene in it, keep clear of the fumes!

How much have you spent on the car so far? Are you really going to bodge that job right at the end for the sake of £35?

Must say,he has a point,it's an appreciating classic now it's concours, think of it as an investment..[:)]

For full on racer style ask the OPC for a GT3 sticker badge. Looks much like the badge but is a sticker with a slight 3d effect created by an outline on one side.

Lol, I am happy to spend the £35 for a new badge if it's the only solution! Just that it seems there should be an easy way to re-fix the perfectly good original. I was surprised to see it's hollowed-out, so you can't just scrape the old tape off. I dunno, you try to do something for the polar bears....[:D]

Given that the 3D versions are awkward to clean, I'll be buying a vinyl version if I need to buy a new one. I thought Rick had stopped doing Porsche badges, but I've not checked for a while.

For me I'd go for the new badge Paul. I think you'll regret it if you don't otherwise you'll always be looking at the solution that you're not 100% happy with. Plus you can flog the old one on ebay for a few pennies back too!

...and for all this good advice we've all given I think you should furnish us with some photos of your shiny new paint now! [:D]

I would go for the original badges Paul, a vinyl one will just look wrong and cheap if you ask me. The 3D badges are not difficult to clean, you just need a small detail brush and some detergent, job done..

Hang about - have I read this right; you are looking at spending £35 on a new badge because the old one has some tape stuck on the back of it? How hollowed-out is it? Can't you scrape the old tape off by any means at all? Or soak it in some solvent?

I'm sure that if it was my badge and my £35 then I'd be finding a way to get the old stuff out.

I would have thought your friendly bodyshop would sort that out for you! and if you hadn't have been so tight you would have ordered a new one at the same time as the rear script [:D][:D][:D]

Oh...and the Polar bears will never know!

I vote having a proper bagde on, i'd personally attempt to sit down witha scribe or similar object and attempt to scrape away the hollow if they are ok. Otherwise spend the £35 for a new one, as someone else has said vinyl wouldnt look as good and think you would begrudge it quite quickly.

I'm sure you would have, but have you actually checked with Exeter PC? I had an S2 badge from them this time last year and I'm sure it wasn't more than twenty (I'll check my receipts tonight).

Failing that, post it to me and I'll strip the old tape off and stick some new on so it fits flush. We're used to doing that for our cheapskate customers all the time. The tricky bit for you will be getting the spacing between the letters spot on so that one of us does not point out wonky letters on your car at every meet from now until eternity [;)]

Incidentally the most expensive tail badge I've come across so far was for a Mitsubishi L200 pickup - over £50 IIRC [&:]

Unfortunately, it will never be right enough... [8D]

Isn't the badge actually supplied with a form showing how it should be positioned?

I have seen new front wing stickers delivered like that.

New one ordered, and despatched within an hour!

Very impressed with Type 911's service for the decal, and the air filter. Prestige parts were great on ebay for the stone guards and rear Porsche script, and Exeter PC sent out the bonnet badge grommits and seal very fast. I do like it when things go smoothly! [:)]

Look forward to seeing it at Rutland
