BAD RADIO RECEPTION?

MY RADIO WONT PICK UP STATIONS , HAD THE WINDSCREEN REPLACED ( WITH NEW AERIAL) NO DIFFERENCE... GUESS THE AMPLIFIER BOX HAS BLOWN? ANY ADVICE ON FITTING A BETTER AERIAL WITHOUT DRILLING THE WING? OR SHOULD I JUST REPLACE THE BOOSTER BOX? THANKS

Hi Keith!

I think poor radio reception is a common thing in the 964. There was someone on Rennlist, who got round this buy fitting a cheap metal telescopic aerial under the dash below the knee bar. He just secured it with cable ties.

That thread on Rennlist which Andy referred to also mentioned the fact that many 964s which have had new head units fitted don't have the power to the aerial amp connected. The power for it comes from the head unit and many fitters leave it unconnected. If this is the case the aerial booster doesn't!!! It's worth a quick check before you go spending £££££.

My own works fine and I know of at least one other 964 owner who's radio works fine once the booster power is connected correctly.

Check out the Rennlist forums, I posted a shot of the antenna booster connection over there, hook 12v into it and hey presto, its the small black wire that wraps its way around the coax antenna wiring.

thanks for the fast replies ive just listened to cds for ages but ive taken the dash top off and will check the booster is getting a live feed could be a free fix! never tried rennlist so will view that tonight thanks

You can get to it from the boot just take the sheet out of the way at the back and all should be revealed.

scanning through my service history, there is a bill for the becker mexico fitted 14.11.1998 for £375 , i pulled the set out and unwrapped the tape around the connection and sure enough no power was going to the aerial, i put a spade on the blue wire that normally powers an electric aerial, shoved the set back in, sorted, all stations loud and clear. wonder why the previous owner never took it back to complain? thanks again, kevin and dave were right. long trip to croft this weekend will be easier with sounds........

I was going to suggest going a slightly different route.

I have just bought a blanking plate to cover the radio slot. I can now ditch the Blaupunkt and save a couple of pounds.

Should increase the lap times or save me going to the gym for another week! ;O)

hi charles, i used my last racer without a radio for a year or so but it does get boring on a 2 hour drive with only the girlfriend to listen to. then again dump the radio and get new girlfriend too , cool!
