Back in the front engined Porsche fold

After a while away from Porsche ownership I am now back in the front end Porsche fold.

Not a 944 I'm afraid but similar.

I have just agreed to buy this car:

http://www.askracing.com/classified-ads/viewad/7.html

A very basic spec but got it at a very good price, delivered, and it would have been rude not to.

Will probably try and race it in the 1800-2500cc class of the CSCC "Modern Classics" series and do a few track days.

Nice looking car Andy, see you at a CSCC meeting soon.

You can run a 924 in Future Classics or modern Classics (the modified Deutsche Marque series).

I started in Deutsche Marque but got p88sed off with coming home 4 laps behind the leaders driving kuhmo BM's.

Switched to FC and have enjoyed the racing more, always someone to play with.

Hi Gerry, I'm at Snetterton on Sunday as Co-ordinator for the Modern Classics series so I'll try & see you there, although I won't be racing yet.

Your S2 is very definitely best off in FC as it suits the 2 litre to 3 litre class very well. If you want a second race, though, you will be very welcome!

In MC we have tried to have different class splits to FC to re-align things slightly and hopefully attract new and different cars out. So in this case the 924S will fit in to the 1800-2500cc class (but would be outclassed in the same class as you in FC). I'm hoping that few older 2.5 litre 944s might join me in MC too?

Similarly in FC there is a 1400cc-1800cc class so I have got an up to 1600cc class in MC to try to attract out the MX5s and Mk1 MR2s that would otherwise be outclassed in FC.

The 968s and Boxters are now in the same class (2500cc to 3200cc) and there will be some 3 litre BMWs in that but the 3.2 litre BMWs are pushed in to the over 3.2 litre class to race with Ferraris and 996 etc

We'll see how it goes. We have 20 cars out on sunday and I'm encouraged by that for the first race of the season for the new series (MC replaces Deutsche marque). Hopefully within the classes there will be people to battle with of similar performance although its impossible to please everyone.

The 924S is a 944 in all but name.

Absolutely. I know that the 968 is sometime referred to as the 944 S3, does that make the 924S a 944S1 or is the 944S2 really an 924S3?

Why don't you join me & a great gang of guys from R18 inc Peter Bull,Brendan Daly R6 sat April 27th at Anglesey-I'll be in my 924S.

Is the Anglesey event purely a PCGB event? I was thinking about bringing my 993 road car along, but I'm very wary of track days.

I've been to a few run by "BookaTrack" types who have shown a very cavalier approach to safety.

The last one I went to five years ago to give my 17 year old some circuit experience was nightmare.

I don't want to be on a track with "Experts", I have only been racing a few decades and I'm not up to some people standard.

Gerry,
It's an addition to the official PCGB trackday list run under typical safe & sensible PCGB trackday protocols with Steve in charge arranged in response to a Rob Kellock suggestion in conjunction with Brendan Daley to synchronise with the R6 Porsches on the Prom event the next day,Sunday in Llandudno.

There will be my 924S trackday car,Zeb's 997 Turbo,Rob's Spyder,Flat6's Spyder,Peter Bull's Speed yellow 997 ,Jamie Wilson's new 997,Boxsters,etc & Tipec members have been invited using the full circuit.

Entry form was in Porsche Post last month-we are all looking forward to a great day with our friends & like minded people. You can book a half day am or pm as some people already have.
Just check on the Forum posts for R18-& Anglesey Trackday--we'd love you to come & meet us.You've just got to watch out for Zeb-he gets upset because Rob always leads him.[:)]

Cheers,

Colin.

Its possible, I do love Anglesey (best circuit in the country) but was hoping for something closer to home for my first run out ( I live a mile from Donington Park and therefore Donington, Mallory, Bruntingthorpe, Blyton, Silverstone & even Bedford are all a lot nearer). I'll think about it, but I need to check it over first and I'd hate to go all the way to Anglesey and then have something brake on me!

Know what you mean,Andy-that's why a lot us oop north are supporting this 1st official PCGB Anglesey trackday-apart from Oulton & possibly Croft, everywhere else is a long way for us--even Anglesey is a treck.
R8's Curborough sprint day ,May 16th will be my next outing after Anglesey in the e-bay Porsche-I know it's a weekday but great fun & we could compare notes if you wanted a shakedown run.

I would come to Anglesey if I'd already shaken the car down and was confident all was OK. I'll see what I can do but its difficult as work is getting in the way of week day activity at the moment!

Can a non member get on the Curborough day? My current contract ends on 15 May, so that could fit and is not far away. My first ever motorsport as a competitor was a couple of Sprints at Curborough in my long gone 944 2.7

It arrived this morning from Ireland. It looks OK. No time to investigate too much at all but it started and drove off the trailer and in the yard. Needs the suspension setting up and some new tyres. Allegedly used in PCGB Class 3 and Porsche Open (Colin Broster, maybe?) at some point, as well as in Ireland. I'm looking forward to getting it set up & trying it out.

My first track and race experiences with the car are written up in the 924 Track and race section of the forum, if anyone is interested.
