Just spent about 2 hours looking on the web to find out how to make the car automatically lock when driving off (manual not to hand!), found out this can be done via PCM screen menu and it is super-easy, you can set it to lock when you put the key in, when you drive off (5mph or thereabouts) or leave open. I did read it only works with Sport Chromo Plus but it isn't accessed by that stalk just via the screen, if you don't have PCM your OPC can reset it for you. Just thought it might be of help to someone else. This is on an '06 car BTW. Imagine this will apply to Boxster and 997 as well.

I think it is default, but after our Mini having it and the Cayman not I was surprised it didnt have it and only when a friend with a Boxster mentioned his did it did I look into it. Definitely a handy safety feature when you hear of the jackjackings gong on.
 
On PCM 3 it is just an option on the touchsreen - but the dealer can program whatever you want and do it differently for each key should you prefer.
 
ORIGINAL: slapshot I had the autolocking disabled because passengers were forever yanking on the door handle when trying to get out. They obviously didn't realise you have to pull the handle twice to unlock the door. I felt sure someone would break the handle one day.

All I do is press the door lock/unlock button just before stopping so they don't get chance to pull the door handle off.
