Are we having a register display at Brands Hatch?

I haven't been to the annual meet for a few years but will try to get there this year. I am happy to provide a car for the register section if needed (Polar C2 NV coupe on 16s).

Who else might be going?

Hi

As per the information in recent editions of PP there will be no Register parking at Brand Hatch.

While I appreciate this takes man power, effort and organisation I think it is an unfortunate decision not to have register parking.

There is little to beat the pure spectacle of rows of cars all the same, and people naturally want look at the same car as they own and talk to owners. Register parking puts people together and encourages that friendly Club interaction. Mixed parking is just a car park and people aren't going to roam over over 20 hectares of parking just to look at randomly distributed versions of their car.

Register parking encourages people to get their car looking its best as it becomes part of the display. If it is just shoved in a mixed Porsche car park the only advantage in turning up in your Porsche is you may not get a door ding from the car along side because it will be another Porsche.

A missed opportunity and the wrong decision in my humble opinion.

I'm with John.

We R10 volunteers didn't go as far as register parking for the Silverstone Classic but we did try to grab the most interesting cars as they came in for a separate area, then split off air cooled, front runners and all other water cooled. Think we had up to 250 cars on the Saturday and between the 6 (max at any one time) volunteers we did OK. Having at 99% cooperation from attendees helped, of course.

I haven't been following the discussion/articles/whatever in Porsche Post because I haven't found the magazine that interesting to read for the last few years (but I'm no great reader of magazines of any type). I am surprised to hear that Register sections are no longer a feature of the event though, since they do/did add a lot to the event as John Sims says in an earlier posting. In fact, my main reason for going to earlier events (99 - 07 inclusive, from memory) was the chance to meet with fellow type owners and share notes. Maybe a good reason to plan a gathering for 993 owners.

Why? Not necessarily[;)].

Personally, I like to talk to the diverse owners and their diverse cars... hopefully getting a better appreciation of why individuals are inspired to drive their particular chosen Porsche, and exchanging thoughts/experiences (otherwise, you'll never know what you might be missing[:)]) - as such, a basic reason for being in a car club, for me... variety is more interesting.

I hope you got the name, rank and serial numbers of the 1%...

"Don't tell him your name, Pike"... (Dad's Army)[:D]. "You're on the list".
