are original alloys much better than copies

Hi

Am thinking of buying boxster alloys or copies of Cup3 alloys? The copies may be a bit heavier. Does this really make much of a difference in the speed or handling for normal road use

Heavier wheels have a negative effect on handling and even acceleration, but whether it's very noticeable on a road car is debatable. That said when I put very light wheels on my MX5 in place of quite heavy ones (fitted by the official UK importer [8|]) it transformed the car. I don't think the difference between genuine and replica Cup wheels is all that great - 2kg per wheel at most and I doubt that is especially noticeable (with the MX5 the difference was around 5kg per corner). I'm certainly prepared to consider replicas for my 964.

I agree with Fen.

If you're driving hard enough on the road to actually notice a difference in weight of say 2 Kg/rim, then you're probably driving too hard on the road. Track driving is a different matter...

Now if the difference was something crazy egregious, say like 10 Kg/rim, the car 'skipping' down the road on the heavier rims might be a bit of a giveaway ;-)

Karl.
