Anyone want a 3Bar FPR in exchange for a standard one?

Gentlefolk,

I still have a 3Bar FPR fitted to an '86 220 Turbo, when since it is otherwise stock, it really could do with a standard 2.5 Bar one. Anyone want to swap? (Yes I did ask this before, and sent it out to Scott... for whom it didn't fix his problem, so he has returned it - thanks Scott, lest I forgot to let you know it was safely back at the time!!!).

Regards,

Tref.

Depending on what happens with the insurance guy hopefully coming today then ill have one I can remove.

Dave, your car doesnt have a conventional 2.5BAR FPR. Depending on its build date it will use either a 944S, or a 944S2 type.

Simon

Later S and the S2 have a 3.8 bar FPR if I recall correctly, it's definately not 3 bar.

Edit to add: also when you convert your turbo to 3 bar, the bosch unit is not threaded, you need to chop your pipe and join it if you have a later type threaded 2.5bar fpr. I don't believe a threaded 3 bar fpr exists.

Stuart

I believe the S2 is 3Bar, and as you say, threaded. The '86 Turbo is 2.5Bar and non-threaded. At the moment mine has an aftermarket (Bosch) 3 Bar, non-threaded.

In fact, I also have a perfectly servicable S2 3 Bar FPR spare as well, replaced new whilst (incorrectly) diagnosing a fuelling problem on my S2 if anyone wants that instead!

Tref.

I wish that I knew what FPR my 2.7l has. From its production number Id guess the later 944S2/968 type, but Im not certain.

The S2 is definitely not 3 bar!! I checked this out before getting my own 3 bar fpr, I am sure it is 3.8 bar.

I think the later 2.7l is 3.8bar also and the early 2.7l is 2.5 bar (i know only one year but it was a developmental model).

Early turbos are 2.5 bar non threaded and later turbos 2.5 bar threaded.

Seems confusing! I have the same fuel rail as the turbo as I replaced it with one from Alasdair.

If what I have is useful to you Tref, let me know.

Thanks Eldavo (and all others for the advice and corrections), but it would appear teh 2.7 is not teh same as my Turbo.

Refering to good old Clarks garage:

http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manual/fuel-07.htm

It would seem what I am looking for is 944 110 198 03, and what I have is an after-market 3 Bar version of the same.

And following the link on that page proves Stuart right on the pressure as well - it is 3.8 Bar for the S2 - I stand corrected! (Never was any good at remembering numbers!).

So... anyone have a stock FPR for an early turbo or later 2.5 NA that they might wish to swap for a 3 Bar version?

Thanks,

Tref.

I have a stock one in the garage somewhere, you're welcome to it. Worked fine when on the car but it is prob 26 years old.

That would be brilliant - most parts on the car are 26 years old, and they all seem to work fine:)

I'll be travelling back from London to the West Monday night - any chance of my stopping off to pick it up then?

could you email me on r26@porscheclubgb.com if that is ok,

Many thanks,

Tref.

Reading this thread reminded me of the early 944T modifying days when we crushed the FPR's outer case to increase it's pressure, hopefully to the 3 bar needed.
Fun days and a big learning curve for sure, life's a lot simpler now...:)

That crossed my mind too - I seem to recall the name Wayne Schofield as being THE name in 944T tuning... or chipping at least - what is he doing now?

hopefully he's still busy mapping cars as I will need mine re-doing once ready... which reminds me I must give him a call to warn him..:)

That's cool. Will drop you a mail when I'm at home. Monday should be fine.

To close on this,

thank you very much James, the 26 year old FPR appears to be working fine - the car has just gone through the MOT with no hint of any emmisions problems, so all looking fine a rosy!

Many thanks again,

Tref.
